Books Within Series Out of Order in Device (iPad)

Hello all,

Returning Calibre user here, using Mac OS Sierra

Trying to sync books with Marvin 3 on my iPad Pro 12.9" running iOS 10

Main problem I'm having is that books don't sync and sort properly once they get to Marvin 3.

epubs on the device appear to list in proper series order, but comic book files (cbr, cbz) are syncing in reverse order.

I have the epubs and cbr/cbz files listed in the proper order in Calibre with the number metadata filled in by me to order them as they are to occur in the story order. Again, the epubs transfer over to Marvin in the correct order but not the comic book files.

What I want to do is keep all of my books and comic books within a series in the proper order I have them arranged in using Calibre. I am using the "number" metadata field to create the proper order which I believe is the correct approach.

How can I get around this annoying glich? Is there some setting I am missing that makes it do this?

Get marvin to support cbz/cbr metadata or convert those books to epub in calibre.

Hmm, I posted this over in the Marvin forum and someone there claimed it was a Calibre issue with cbr/cbz metadata handling.

:-)

But then you are saying it is an issue with Marvin not supporting cbr/cbz metadata.

I just tried converting cbr to epub in Calibre and the results using the default parameters were less than impressive, so that might not be an option unless I can figure out to adjust the parameters to improve the output.

At this point, I'm more attached to Calibre than I am to Marvin 3. Does anyone know of an iOS e-book reader that will read epub/cbr/cbz/pdf file, sync with Calibre locally and also over the internet, and supports Calibre metadata including series number?

@American Desi - Try setting Conversion->Page Setup->Output profile to Tablet.

Last time I looked comic format readers for iPad weren't hide to find, why not use one of them rather than trying to shoehorn everything into Marvin.

calibre has been writing metadata to cbz files long before marvin existed. And if you want proper access to calibre metadata on iOS use the calibre companion application (currently in beta) that gives you far more sophisticated access to the calibre database and can be used with any iOS reading application of your choice to actually read the books.

I'm definitely interested in Calibre Companion. But I need this for iOS.... if it's still in beta, how does one go about getting it?

By joining the beta program. Take a look in the Calibre Companion section here for full details.
