I would think that that question would be better asked in January.

My vote is cast. Looks like the non owners are still in the lead, and here I thought that Linux people were the gadget freaks.

Not all Linux geeks. About 5-7 years ago I would say yes. But that's back when the Linux community was still mostly techies. Over the past 5 year or so the community has really diversified a LOT. Heck, I saw huge changes happen to the Linux and FOSS communities in just the three years that I owned Raiden's Realm. We actually had to change our focus several times over that three year period just to keep up with the changes. I finally gave up trying to stay with the evolving trends and let someone else fuss over that. lol.

I concur. Some distributions, such as Ubuntu, are aimed very much at the average PC user. I think the fact that applications such as Calibre are available for Linux, as well as Windows and OS X, speaks volumes.

Well, believe it or not, the rise of Ubuntu was the primary reason for the huge influx of average users. Had it not been for them, Linux would still be strictly a geeks OS.

The majority of whom are probably ex-Windows users. To those who develop software for e-book reader users (eg publishers, distributors, manufacturers), please note. Bravo Calibre!

Actually, yes, the majority *are* ex-windows users. But there's also getting to be a surprising number of Mac refuges as well.

For me the interesting thing is that it's as near 50:50 as you can get, which means half that population has an e-reader. Imagine if that applied to the population as a whole. And as someone said, wait till after Christmas. Here in Sweden the word is already out that this year's top Christmas present will be an e-reader, based on present sales.

Here in America the ratio of those with ereader and those without is like 1:1000 or more. I don't know how you guys can have a ratio of 50/50 on your end. I don't even think the Japanese have a ratio like that, and they're gadget nuts.
