Epub to LRF conversion probs

Hi All,

As a non-techy I'm looking for some advice please. I'm trying to convert two recent Sony purchases from Epub to LRF - they've been 'liberated' but the font is way too small, even on the 505's large setting. This is something I've done many times before, including on Sony purchases, but something is going wrong this time. Calibre doesn't give an error message, but seems to be stuck in a loop at 47percent done, no matter how long I let it rumble on for. The job details read as follows:

Convert book 1 of 1 (u"Wit'ch Storm")
InputFormatPlugin: EPUB Input running on C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\James Clemens\Wit'ch Storm (804)\Wit'ch Storm - James Clemens.epub

This is the same with both books, which are both by James Clemens. Any clues please?

I'm still using Calibre v0.6.0....which brings me onto my next question: if/when I upgrade, I note I have to uninstall the existing version first. Does this mean I'll lose all my tags and collections, etc? (Please. please say 'NO'!!).

Many thanks,
Chris

BTW, you may also consider editing the CSS in the EPUB which most likely has a font-size: small; on the paragraph style. I've seen this in a number of EPUBs and I just comment out that line, which makes it much more readable. There are typically 2-3 styles where you might need to do it.

Dmapr, thanks for the suggestion, it sounds as if that would work well. How/where do I find the CSS though? Is it on the Look/Feel page of the conversion screen?? Thanks.

No, I meant edit the EPUB directly. What I do is open the EPUB with WinRAR (on another OS you could just rename it to .ZIP) and find the CSS file, then extract it, edit and put back in the EPUB. I typically have to take a look at one of the chapter files to determine which CSS classes are at fault.

I don't know enough about how Calibre merges CSS to tell you whether using the additional CSS can help you fix the problem, but my guess is that you will have to look up the specific classes used by the book anyway.
