This thread did go a-wandering!
I feel like I've read a lot of books that are marketed towards women without even thinking about it. Most of a genre of fantasy I like (I label it "cozy fiction") has a lot of romance in it, but I just consider it a bonus or a win-win along with the fantasy/action plot. Patricia McKillip in particular makes just my brand of damsel-in-distress book. I feel like those sorts of books are more like guilty pleasures. I also tend to find the exciting romantic bits in even the greatest of classic literature completely drool-worthy. War and Peace is chock-full of, it surprisingly, and most of what I remember from the plot are the "twitterpaited" bits! And oh man, don't get me started on Jane Eyre and that hunk of all hunks Mr. Rochester! There were some great suggestions here! I had a friend in college who wrote exclusively in the romance/erotica genre, but was VERY secretive about it. It makes me want to pick up a Harlequin novel and have a stab at some romance lit! |

So can we go back to what women wants to read?
Anyway, I like to read historical romance, fantasy paranormal romance fiction, suspense thriller romance, drama, contemporary romance, erotica romance....you get the drift. As long as it has romance on it I read. The authors I love to read to name a few are: Judith McNaught(she haven't had any new books for a long time now, but what she published was excellent), Jude Deveraux, Brenda Joyce, Jayne Ann Krentz, Amanda Quick, Catherine Coulter, Jane Feather, Lisa Kleypas, Lori Foster, J R Ward, Richelle Mead, Rachel Caine, Charlaine Harris, PC & Kristin Cast etc. Also read a self help book if it's written by: Barbara De Angelis, PhD. As of now I'm addicted to the fantasy paranormal romance fiction. Vamps, Time Travel, Witch, basically stories about/with magic. |

Give 'em a bit of time to sort out the problems from the agency-pricing psychosis. (No idea if they had planned on working with any of those publishers, but they probably had planned on at least the *possibility*, and the changes probably threw them off a bit.)
Also, it's a lousy time to open an ebook store--because for the next week or so, the ebook chatter will all be about what's changed at existing stores. And while a new story with shiny new features might be able to capitalize on people's dissatisfaction with the existing marketplace, it'll be a week or two before they do anything about it. |

Porn vs Erotica
When I think of romance and erotica, author Christine Feehan is the first that comes to my mind. She always seems to have a good balance of both, with a lot of action, mystery, and suspense mixed in. Can you tell she is my favorite? I agree 200% that there is a huge difference between porn and erotica!!!! If you don't like any particular genre then don't spend your time and money on it. It's as simple as that. I just finished the 4 books in author, Karen Marie Moning's Fever series, and it's going to kill me to have to wait for the next book to be released in 2011. She really left her readers hanging!!!!! OMG Is there anyone else that feels that is just...SOOOOO WRONG? LOL I do love suspense...
