Fires are really sort of Android Tablets running an App. That may be why Amazon dropped Kindle from the name. Only the eink models are real Kindles running a variety of native reader applications. Earlier than 3.x something FW can't do KF8, i.e, the Keyboard B008 can and the later DXG B009 can't as it is 2.x.x or something at the latest maybe due to having less RAM. The Kindle Keyboard has the Publisher Font option, which is the clue!
So really an old eink Kindle for old Mobi, a kindle later than FW 3.5 for KF8, a PW3 or later for KFX and a Kindle App on Android will test most of the Amazon options. The Fire, iOS App, Android App and PC program might not all do all of the comic and fixed layout options, but do support versions that don't work AT ALL on any eink Kindle. |
