Number of Books in Calibre Library

Versions of Calibre way back always showed the number of books in the library.

In the latest versions I occasionally see a number of books but when I want to know I can never get it to appear.

Is there anyway that this figure could show all the time? Is there a chnage in the Preferences that can fix this?

the number of books is always shown in the toolbar as long as you dont have device connected. if you do, just scroll to the bottom of the librry view to see the number of books you have.
