it sounds like some of y'all have had an easier time getting EDL to talk to this thing than I have based on instructions for rooting earlier devices. I just got mine yesterday and naively assumed rooting it would be "simple." are there specific things needed to be able to pull the boot images so we can let Magisk do its thing?

It is easy. Get ADB working. "adb reboot edl". Install the WinUsb driver with Zadig. Download the Firehose loader listed on my page for the Palma2. Rename it palma2.bin. "edl /lpalma2.bin", "edl /u /g", "edl /u /r /pboot_a boot.img".

I don't know what you have there as "palma2.bin", but it's not the file that I linked.
It's not even a partial download of the file that I linked.
The file that I linked is 759,504 bytes long.

you're right. have no idea how I did that but I downloaded the correct file and everything worked flawlessly. do you mind if I create a HOWTO for Reddit, linking to your page for necessary files?

I don't see an update for the Palma2 in the regular places.

Incremental updates requires everything to be as expected.
Full update don't care.
Which is it?

It must be incremental as it's only 145.2MB. 2024-11-21_16-30_4.0_6c1e69b9e. OK, so sounds like restoring boot_a and boot_b will take care of it. Then I can just re-root after(?).

Hi there,
Got my Palma2 a few days ago, now I would like to root it. However, I am on Ubuntu 22..04, not on Windows. Is it possible to root it from this machine as well? I got adb installed already, also Termux and ssh - but since I am not root, I can not fully access the sd-card.

You can use the Python EDL client.

OK, thanks, I will give it a try. Actually, for the moment I will try if I can get by without rooting.

The main thing I want to achieve is to be able to access the sd-card from KOReader, which it currently does not see. If I can't get this to work through adb or ssh, I will go down this rabbit hole :-)
