I think on some kindles they had a defect that was uv related, that it would fade under direct sunlight, but if you had that problem, you could send unit back to amazon. Thanks Harry for the tip on Book Designer, I'll look into it, I would like more options for pdf conversions other than calibre. |

Personally, what I've heard of the Kindle DX tells me that it doesn't hold a penlight to the DR, and Amazon is still restricting them to the US anyway. The DR is very much worth its cost. I see the DR as being the only true viable choice, regardless of Richman's insistence that it doesn't exist. The real question is does he pay for the niche product or not, and only the original poster can answer that for himself. |

Yeah, I guess I spoke with too much authority! Does sound like the 1000 can do pdf's right! It's just that for the orginal poster and me the 800 price tag was not worth it. My prs-505 150 and netbook 200 and laptop 300 and itouch 200 I think are reasonable, 1000s 800 dollars doesn't fall in line price wise with my other tech gear. But at 300 dollars I would go for it! The downside for me would be 13 hours battery life of the 1000, my prs-505 has 2 to 3 weeks, and that is one of the major reasons I got it, most of my other tech equipment only has a few hours battery life. It's nice not to have to worry about if I will run our of juice the next few days or weeks.(like I do with all my other tech gear)

you need, of course, both! A DR1000 and a sony 505, if you are a self respecting techie.

I think I may go for the SmartQ 7, hopefully if I can get along with the LCD it should allow me to do everything I want if I crop the margins on the PDFs I'm viewing. Watch this space... |

indeed, the costs of iRex is above my budget, though i must admit they are more than just an e-reader. Perhaps waiting out for newer devices and more choices may be the better option, especially since i lived in singapore.
thanks. |

Love my 505! However, I would like to have a 10" screen for reading the paper every morning, I could read today's paper from Germany or the US. Tried it on the 505, it is possible, but sheer torture. Magazines also would be an option. And I could still read books on it and PDF files without too much trouble. But I am holding out for a reader with WiFi. Maybe the Plastic Logic. My wife would be happy to take the 505 off my hands.

As for the apple tablet, I don't think they have an e-reader screen in mind. If it is just a regular LCD tablet I am not interested. |
