A Motherlode of FREE Routledge Titles Available to Be Mined!

Someone mentioned, a couple of years ago, that Routledge Publishers is into Open Access in a big way. I think that information about the free ebooks available through their Open Access program bears repeating.

At least some (but still a huge number) of Routledge's Open Access titles are available as Kindle mobi's at Amazon. I suggest that you start your mining for them at this webpage at Amazon. Beginning at that webpage, the Routledge titles are sorted by price, low to high.

There is at least one title, the first one listed, which is available as an Audible audiobook. Interestingly, the price for the audiobook alone is $14.95, but if you "buy" the ebook, you can get it for $7.49. I don't know if that situation holds true for other titles which have the Audible audiobook format as options--there appears to be no way to find such books other than to search each webpage.

Most by far, if not all, of the titles are non-fiction; thus, the reason for posting this information on the "Non-Fiction" thread.

Thank you, Routledge!

I know that I'm doing that, too. I try to set bookmarks, or write the information down somewhere, but often it just doesn't get done . . . .

I'm going to go out on a limb here.

It might be that the Routledge books can be offered by anyone, as long as they are not sold by anyone and the text is not altered, for example. Although they are Open Access, it seems like there would _have_ to be _some_ restrictions, even if those restrictions are very minimal. They're not like books that have gone out of copyright, in that regard, where a person can do _anything_ that he or she wants to do with the books. Perhaps all OA titles hold some kind of Creative Commons license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/ (drill down to the "Three Licenses" section)).

I hope that the preceding comments will spur someone with greater and more accurate knowledge to chime in.

FREE Book about the Development of Air Warfare in World War I.

The Fateful Dawn, by Richard Townshend Bickers is currently free from Endeavor Publications.

The book was selected and marked down to commemorate the 1918 Armistice, ending World War I, which Armistice was, of course, 100 years ago this year.

The title of the book tells us almost nothing. The subtitle, Death from Above, helps. The book is about the "beginning of an incredible revolution in air warfare," which occurred during that war.

There are 0 ratings at Amazon, but 18 at GoodReads with a great 3.94 average.

Score the deal from this webpage.

Yeah, I "bought" it myself, assuming that it was non-fiction (I "never" buy fiction), because of all of the cues that I look for.

Interestingly, on the book's webpage is this:
Amazon Best Sellers Rank:
. . . .
#1 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > History > Military > Aviation
#6 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > War
#90 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Nonfiction

The middle one is, no doubt, the one that you made reference to?

Is there a way for a book to be both fiction and non-fiction? There is a subgenre of "historical fiction." Maybe the book fits into that category. When I have some time, I'll do some reading in it. The results may warrant removing it from this thread and posting it on one of the fiction threads . . . .

Thanks for calling that to our attention. Personally, I don't want any works of fiction contaminating my computer.

Is there a way for a book to be both fiction and non-fiction?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-fiction_novel

The non-fiction novel is a literary genre which, broadly speaking, depicts real historical figures and actual events woven together with fictitious conversations and uses the storytelling techniques of fiction. The non-fiction novel is an otherwise loosely defined and flexible genre. The genre is sometimes referred to using the slang term "faction", a portmanteau of the words fact and fiction.

Quite a lot of James Michener too

American author of more than 40 books, most of which were fictional, lengthy family sagas covering the lives of many generations in particular geographic locales and incorporating solid history.
