Kindle2 Vs EZ Reader in pictures

HI Guys,

In the fortunate position of having an EZ Reader and a Kindle 2 in the house, so I thought I would share some comparison pics with you all.....

Bear in mind I am NOT a photographer or a Tech wiz, so take the pics as they are.....

Reading on the gondola ride to Sentosa Island might be one of the best parts of Sentosa! (Actually, the aquarium is pretty neat too!)

Thanks for the great picture review. It states a good case for the EZ Reader!

After my time... Only a long slow bus ride back then. Beautiful, but slow. Reading is a great way to not notice the heights though! Also helps to forget how much we leave in the casinos too...

But you can't use the wireless access while in S'pore or the Highlands. Or anywhere outside the US, for that matter. Not worth the extra bucks to buy the Kindle if you can't use all its features. Besides, it looks as if the EZ Reader has a sharper screen. I know my Sony 505 is easier on my eyes than the Kindle.

I know!! But i we ever get back to the states, its ON! And I think Kindle coulda been better for the price....or even free with say 15 Ebook purchases..... Pretty limited to Amazon stuff in my opinion...

Sadly have not had the chance to see a Sony in-the-flesh, though I would like to..even if it's a little....limited...in the ol' format department.... Love to see what the screen is like Vs Kindle2 Vs Ez Reader......

I've now had the opportunity to see them side-by-side, and I'm VERY happy that I bought the Sony! Several reasons...
1. Although the screens are just about the same size, the Sony gave the appearance of having a larger screen simply because there is less 'stuff' around and under the screen. The Kindle felt small to me.

2. The Sony screen seems to me to be quite a bit sharper. Perhaps it's just the contrast that makes it so, but I found it easier to read the Sony.

3. I didn't care for the touch screen control. When I read, my hands are naturally on the Sony's page buttons. No extra movement other than some pressure. With the Kindle it seemed that I had to make too many hand movements.

4. The Sony screen seemed (to me, but not to the Kindle owner) to be whiter. More paper-like. I guess this is subjective.

5. I just don't like the monopolistic feel of the Kindle tying me to Amazon. I only get back to the States once every 5-8 years so I really wouldn't get much use out of the Kindle's wireless network.

Formats don't seem to be a problem, with Calibre loaded on my PC. To date I haven't had any difficulties changing any books except one 'for Dummies' book that was in PDF. Other PDF's turned out fine. So far I've been able to find 75% of the books I've wanted to read already converted to the Sony formats, and have been able to convert 99% of the rest without problem.

My needs for a reader are pretty simple. Basically just books with very little graphic content. The Sony handles this quit well. I don't annotate, nor need a search function. Sony's bookmarks and collections make it easy for me to navigate. And for a buck and a half less, the Sony was my choice.

First, it's an ezreader, not a sony But I do agree, the Kindle does appear to have a smaller screen. Shows how we can be fooled by our eyes...

Again, our eyes and brains are funny! I got the impression that the contrast on the ezreader was better. Must be the dark frame around the screen.

I also noticed that the kindle was actually larger than the pbook! A reason for me to get a reader is because they're smaller than pbooks, not larger!

Nice pics! They only enhance the uglyness (but mostly the "bulkiness") of the Kindle...

I will admit that the ezreader isn't the most handsome of the lot either, but I still find it much better looking than the Kindle...

I noticed in almost every picture that the kindle wastes a lot of screen real estate. Do we really need to see the title of the book and wireless signal strength on every page?

Now if only ezreader would support search.

Excuse me, Sweetpea, but I was speaking about my comparison of the Sony to the Kindle, not Xiaopanda's pics of the EZ Reader and Kindle. I guess I wasn't clear enough. Sorry.

My guess is that the contrast on any reader with a touch screen is lower than one without. No doubt the contrast was better on the Sony than the Kindle, and I saw those up close and personal.

I also have both a Kindle 2 and an EZ Reader. Looking at them side by side the clear winner for readability (on mine) is the Kindle. The background on the EZ Reader is noteably darker--you can see that in Xiaopanda's pictures as well. In addition, the software on the EZ Reader does a much worse job of rendering a page that is pleasing to the eye. (Note that my Kindle 2 is running Fonthack with a bolder font than comes standard. This makes a big difference. Until I changed the font, the EZ Reader was the easier screen to read!!)

All that said, the difference isn't really that great and either of them creates a pretty good reading experience.

I never knew the Kindle2 had a touchscreen?

Actually, my thought was that both screens looked the same, but that the EzReader appeared to have a lighter screen (caused by its dark frame, compared to the white frame of the Kindle)

In my case, the text is a little crisper on the EZ reader, and the Kindle is a little greyer, though I have a feeling that it has to do with Batches of E-ink screens more than anything else...and a little luck....and the light.. in full sun the EZ is clearer than the Kindle, but the Kindle is just as good....a little less contrasty... than the EZ in dimmer lighting.... though they both suck in the dark..... (sometimes I pine for my PDA..then I turn the micro screen back on...)

Opps! You're right! I mixed in my thoughts when comparing the 505 with the 700!

I still think that the casing does have an influence.

And I doubt any device will be best in every circumstance... I've two LCD devices now. The JE100 is better for night time reading as the backlight can be turned down a lot more, but the Loox720 is better for outside reading as it has a transflective screen. And I will get that e-ink for the long battery life.

Agreed, sort of...the EZ reader is black, but the text still looks crisper, almost bold in direct comparison to the K2.

Still waiting for the E-Ink PDA.... with downloadable software so you can read with MS Reader, Mobipocket, etc..... whatever you want! I'd even take a WinCE OS if needed......
