custom news feed is too big to send via email

hi
i have a custom news script that downloads from a source with lots of images. given that the feed is intended to be viewed under my kindle that can only handle black and white, there's no need for big pictures with 24bit color. is there any way to reduce color depth and image size while processing the feeds?
the ideal way would be to have an option in .mobi output that allows "convert to gray scale" or "resize image to..."

any comments?

I believe output size is already reduced if your device is set correctly. You could also split the recipe up into two recipes if you have multiple feeds. After that, I think you're into Python programming to implement image control inside the recipe (Although Kovid may have some tricks for B&W vs. color). The people who frequent the recipe forum might have other options for you.

there isn't any such option, I've never felt the need for it and if it was used then in a a couple of years once color screen become common you'd have to go back and re-convert.

You'll just have to transfer your large feed by USB.

EDIT: That said you can do it manually in the recipe itself, look at the comic/input.py file for examples of code.
