calibre should be registered as one of the Open With menu options. Using that should, IIRC, have calibre add the file to the library.

Thats pretty bad. I don't use calibre for viewing pdf,mobi,etc... Just for managing and organizing them. Is there other way to do this? Maybe there is a plugin to add this command?

To be honest, I have no idea what you are trying to say.

This should do exactly what you want. Who said anything about viewing them?

FWIW
Calibre is the Library Program
Calibre-viewer is the viewer

You can drop files on the Calibre shortcut to add (but they still remain)

You could Move them to the Auto-Add folder (user configured), which deletes the contents after the Add.

THIS ALL assumes one Library
You will need to use CLI arguments to specify WHICH Library if not the CURRENT one

Thanks for help. Just found nice program called "ContextEdit" which allows creating custom context menu items.

You can also create custom context menu entries.

You will want to use the command-line interface to calibre to do it.

Code:
calibredb add [--with-library="C:\path\to\library\"] "%s"
The bracketed stuff is optional, in case yo wish to specify what library to add it to.

I just did it on XP without any 3rd party progy

Start Run:sendto (user sendto folder opens)
Add shortcut: choose calibre.exe: re Name the shortcut (eg Send to Calibre Main)

Optional adjust the properties to include CLI arguments like shown by @eschwartz

Done

On Windows by what means and when would that happen.

Open With entries are stored in the Registry, what you suggest would require that calibre register an Add verb with an appropriate command. Calibre itself does NOT change the registry - for Open With, Add Book, View Book or anything else.

Adding entries to the registry manually or via utilities such as the one previously mentioned, or the similar one from Nils Soper, is not something to be blithely suggested. If the user switches from/to 64-bit, to 32-bit or portable values the registry entries wont work, and will have to be repaired manually. Changes can actually result in the losing ability to maintain file associations or add to Open With etc for all file types - the best solution I know for that is Reinstall Windows.

The Trusted Installer does maintain the Registry entries pertinent to the install, uninstall, repair services it provides to calibre, and other installed programs.
