Hi there,

I have tried the normal way and the troubleshooting way, and also using wifi and hotspot but just can't get mosquito to load.

I reset my kindle a dozen times and used both my phone and the kindle to register/sign in but it just keeps loading the kindle store instead of mosquito.

I made sure all folders are included (even the hidden ones on mac) and still nothing. I am about to give up and trying one last time to see if anyone ran into the same issue and found a fix.

I struggled for the longest time to get mesquito to show up instead of the kindle store. I read every page of this thread, followed the advice on the kindle modding site, factory reset at least 10 times. I can't remember where I read the advice, but someone suggested that they go theirs to work because their wifi was going in and out. I decided to switch the connection to my mobile hotspot and instead of putting my kindle on airplane mode, I just turned the hotspot off. Then, I attempted to load the kindle store a few times. It would tell me I'm not connected to wifi and ask me to click one, I'd close out of that page and click the store icon again. I did that a few times, then when I turned my hotspot back on and went into the store, mesquito loaded!

Here's hoping the other steps don't give me as much trouble.

I am in the same boat, with same PW11 and same firmware.
I already reset my kindle a dozen times and used both hotspot and wifi and registered/sing off with phone and on kindle but just can't get mosquito to load.

Could you describe in details the steps you took to get it to load?

I found my error!
i was copying the whole extracted folder into the kindle, just tried copying only the files within the folder and clicked yes when asked to replace the existing file and it worked!
(am on mac btw)

Delete ".active_content_sandbox" folder in kindle, re-copy this folder, re-boot kindle and then go to the store. I had to repeat this process several times.

Gotcha. I’ve been copying the files but still no luck.

I just tried to do the process for my Kindle, and I can't transfer most of the files on Windows 11. I'm hit with a "file name you specified is not valid or too long" error.

Any suggestions?

So I have a K5, and I wanted to try jailbreaking it with the installation instructions provided in the head post. It says Winterbreak "works on ANY KINDLE (from the K5) ", but the list of recommended Jailbreaks by device model says I should use a Legacy method for a K5.
Is there a reason Winterbreak isnt reccommended for this device type? Does the "from" mean after K5, or also K5?

I tried to do a legacy method, but I havent been able to pull up demo mode yet. That only leaves me with KindleBreak, which looks too complicated for my 2am brain to handle. It looks viable, since the device does have Send-To-Kindle E-mail
What should I do?

When you say to “re-copy this folder” do you mean just putting in the winterbreak files that includes this folder? i’ve tried this 10 times or so now with no success. I just can’t get past the kindle store portion.

That is right. First, turn on the airplane mode, connect kindle to computer, delete the folder(.active_content_sandbox), put the winterbreak files(.active_content_sandbox folder downloaded from the Winterbreak site) again, disconnect the kindle from computer, reboot(restart) the kindle, and then follow the instructions. I had to repeat the process about five times last time.

i can confirm this works 100% on my kindle scribe with latest update 5.17.3. my scribe is now jailbroken

Now that I'm jailbroken for the first time, can anyone point me to a page/wiki/link to learn and install apps and kual apps, extensions ,terms explanations, must-haves and others to my scribe to enjoy it fully.

I have Kindle Scribe 2022 and I jailbroke it while it was at version 5.17.2 but forgot to disable OTA. Yesterday it was upgraded to 5.17.3 and my jailbreak was lost. After a factory reset, I can no longer jailbreak it using winterbreak.

Looks like Amazon no longer use that index.html anymore, I can see there is another folder under .active_content_sandbox called LocalStorage.

Can anyone help? Thanks very much!!

You’ll want to delete that LocalStorage folder. At least that’s what the troubleshoot steps say to do:

- Factory Reset Kindle
- Before registering your Kindle/logging into your account - plug your Kindle into your PC, move the WinterBreak files to the root of your storage space
- Log in account and enter airplane mode as soon as possible
- Connect Kindle to PC and delete the cache directory at the path .active_content_sandbox/store/resource/LocalStorage (Skip this step if the LocalStorage directory does not exist)
- Reboot Kindle
- Open the Kindle Store on your Kindle
- When prompted, click yes to turn off airplane mode

Thanks a lot! I have just tried and does not seem to work, it still just go to normal Kindle store page instead of the winterbreak. I felt this hole has been patched by 5.17.3?
