I just would like to say big thank you to all involved in making this JB! I really appreciate time and effort and easy to use guide. I was able to root KT4 on 5.17.1 and downgrade to 5.13.5 and root it again :-)

Hello guys. I followed the guide and was successful but now kual doesn't open anymore. my firmware went from 5.16 to 5.17.1.0.4 even though I disabled updates. It seems I did something wrong along the way. Can this be fixed?

When you installed RenameOTABin, did you open it in KUAL and tap Rename? It should have rebooted after you did so. If you didn't then the OTA wasn't actually disabled.

I thought I did but apparently not. Using the hotfix book didn't do anything, then I took a risk and did a factory reset and it worked. I cracked it again and this time I was successful. My problem now is that koreader won't open. It blinks but then returns to the main screen. I installed several versions, the latest I tried was from this page, all three kindle downloads https://build.koreader.rocks/downloa...02-22/?C=M&O=D Any fix for this? |

Thanks, yeah needed to use Marek's KHF version. Likely due to using Marek's KUAL in the first place.

Kindle ColorSoft
Hi there!
Could you please tell me if it is a way, or if it will be a way, to jailbreak a new KindleColorsoft without an Amazon Account? I brought mine second hand and it looks like it is active on another Amazon account and not blacklisted. Thanks a lot! |

I'm not sure why you would want to keep someone else's account on your Kindle, but if that account is already logged in, then WinterBreak should work. The exploit needs the Kindle to be registered because of the way it works (the store cache will only load on a registered Kindle), but the actual account doesn't matter.

I applied the jailbreak tonight and it seemed to go without any problems. Thanks for this.
I originally wanted to downgrade my Scribe firmware to the previous one, before they added the un-hideable icon to the reading area. I noticed that downgrading will wipe my device. Before I get into anything like that, has anyone created a jailbreak "fix" that will hide that icon on the current Scribe firmware? Thanks for the help. |

Can you boot the kindle normally to the Home Screen? If so, doing a factory reset should wipe out any lingering account information and trigger the registration process, enabling you to enter your own account information. If the Kindle won’t go past the registration page, or won’t let you enter your own account details, then you won’t be able to jailbreak it. |

I’m not having luck getting past the “unexpected error” message when you go into the amazon store. I’ve followed instructions and troubleshooting steps to the letter and also followed along with multiple videos on youtube. I’m on a Oasis 10th gen running 5.17.1.0.3. I’m also using a Mac to load everything if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
