Funny Kindle of the Day (or Whenever)

I know that all Mobilereaders have been waiting with bated breath for the next "funny Kindle of the Day (or Whenever)." It has been several days since I have posted one, due to matters to take care of which were more pressing. But, fear not, I have one for you today!

Again, I do not intend to offend. GtrsRGr8 (from henceforth, he will use the rhetorical third person and "Gtrs" for short) does not believe in the paranormal--no visitors from outer space, no ESP, no bending spoons with thoughts alone, no ghosts, none of it. That's why he finds this ebook funny.

It took all of the self-control that Gtrs could muster to keep himself from posting this on one of the fiction threads, but he behaved himself, and as the libraries would do with a book on such a topic, he placed it in the "non-fiction" area.

In the book, "Granny Ghost Hunter" visits various touristy places with her camera and takes photographs. She doesn't see anything unusual while in these places, but when the photos are developed, there are anomalies--spots, outlines of people or animals, and so on--that are on the photographs!

Gtrs, being an unbeliever in the paranormal, thinks that Granny must be lighting her cigarettes in the darkroom while she is developing the photographs, and double-exposing some photos by forgetting (that happens more and more as you get older, you know) to advance the film by a frame for the next shot. Too, he wonders why this has happened apparently only on Granny's photographs at these places, and no one else's. But, you can see what you think.

Gtrs is glad to say that this Kindle is free; he tries to post only free funny Kindles of the day, but sometimes that is impossible. So, if you wish to obtain it, it won't cost you a cent, at this moment in time (double-check that before buying). And Gtrs? Well, unfortunately, he . . . uh . . . doesn't have room on his little 3 tb hard drive for it. In all seriousness, however, Gtrs believes that the book does have some redeeming qualities--there is some nice information about, and photos of, the places that Granny visited.

Granny Ghost Hunter. By Shelagh McHardy. Rated 3 1/2 stars from 7 reviews at the present moment. Digital list price $2.99; Kindle price $0.00. http://www.amazon.com/Granny-Ghost-H...y+Ghost+Hunter.

Shelagh McHardy is an “ordinary” mum and grandmother. 3 years ago, she started visiting historical locations and found, to her surprise, that the photographs she had taken contained some extremely strange and often unexplainable “oddities” within.

Granny Ghost Hunter tells the story of her journey, the research she has undertaken and her in-depth investigation into the paranormal. Covering locations in England, Scotland, Europe and Africa, the book contains numerous genuine photographs of some very strange anomalies ..... Ghosts?

Giving a balanced view-point on what she has discovered, she invites debate in the hope that an answer can be found to the question we all ask at one time or another — “Is there life after death”?

Free Ebook on Travel in "Secret" Europe

This ebook is largely a plug for Lonely Planet's (the publisher's) respective guidebooks to the places discussed in the book--at the end of the discussion about each place, the book gives the corresponding Lonely Planet guidebook to which to refer.

However, this short book has information about a lot of places in Europe that I have never heard of, yet seem very intriguing. It is truly about "secret" Europe. It is definitely a download and a keeper for me.

Secret Europe: 50 truly unforgettable experiences to inspire your next trip. By Lonely Planet. Rated 4 stars, but from only 2 reviews at the present moment. Kindle price now $0.00. http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Europe-...your+next+trip. If you want the book in the pdf, or iBooks for iPad or iPhone format (all free as well), you can probably get them here: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/secret-europe/?form=success. If not, you may have to go here http://www.lonelyplanet.com/secret-europe/ and give Lonely Planet the information that they want first.

At Lonely Planet, many of our favourite European experiences remain unknown to most travellers. We've created a mini-guide 'Secret Europe: 50 TRULY UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES TO INSPIRE YOUR NEXT TRIP' that includes clandestine nightclubs, secret hotels, killer views, off-the-radar villages, lesser-known cultural capitals, and more. Sourced from our expert authors, locals, and other in-the-know denizens, some of these experiences cannot be found in any guidebook. It's these kinds of unexpected, magical places that make unforgettable memories. Whether you've never been to Europe or have been 100 times, we're confident you'll find something here to whet your travel appetite, inspiring you to pick a country or region and start planning your next adventure there.

No matter where your excursion leads, how many times you've been, or what you're looking for, there's always more to discover than you might expect. Wandering off beaten paths can happen anywhere, even in iconic well-trodden destinations like Paris, where you can find a hidden picnic area near a patisserie of glorious historic and gastronomic creds that few tourists will ever find. So, go forth, explore, and... shhhh, don't tell too many people about it.

Coverage Includes:
Spain: Cabo de Gata, Parque Natural Sierras Subbeticas, Gibraltar Czech Republic: Olomouc, Prague Poland: Krakow Turkey: Bozcaada Ireland: Cromane, Dublin Macedonia: Dihovo Italy: Lazio, Nocelle, Sibillini Mountains, Ostuni, Venice Croatia: Losinj, Zagreb Germany: Mechernich, Beuron, Berlin Netherlands: Haarlem, Amsterdam England: Battle, South Cotswolds, London Luxembourg: Luxembourg City Norway: Kjerringoy, Bergen Russia: Kaliningrad France: Amiens, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Paris Serbia: Belgrade Iceland: Reykjavik, Nordurfjordur Estonia: Tartu Montenegro: Morinj Belarus: Pripyatsky National Park Switzerland: Lavaux Albania: Shkodra Greece: Ithaca Georgia: Kakheti Portugal: Vila do Bispo Wales: Conwy Latvia: Sigulda Scotland: Claunie Finland: The Lakeland Crete: Milia.

Price Drop on Ronald Reagan Kindle

Reagan's Revolution: The Untold Story of the Campaign That Started It All. By Craig Shirley. Rated 4 1/2 stars, from 25 reviews. Print list price $19.99; Kindle price now $2.99. http://www.amazon.com/Reagans-Revolu...Started+It+All.

Today's political scene looks nothing like it did thirty years ago, and that is due mostly to Reagan's monumental reshaping of the Republican party. What few people realize, however, is that Reagan's revolution did not begin when he took office in 1980, but in his failed presidential challenge to Gerald Ford in 1975-1976. This is the remarkable story of that historic campaign-one that, as Reagan put it, turned a party of "pale pastels" into a national party of "bold colors." Featuring interviews with a myriad of politicos, journalists, insiders, and observers, Craig Shirley relays intriguing, never-before-told anecdotes about Reagan, his staff, the campaign, the media, and the national parties and shows how Reagan, instead of following the lead of the ever-weakening Republican party, brought the party to him and almost single-handedly revived it.

Kindle Freebie to Help You Find Love

For ladies. Sorry, gentlemen, maybe I can find one for you soon.

Skin In the Game: Unleashing Your Inner Entrepreneur to Find Love. By Neely Steinberg. Rated 5 stars from 14 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $16.99; digital list price $5.99; Kindle price now $0.00. http://www.amazon.com/Skin-Game-Unle...r+to+Find+Love.

SKIN IN THE GAME: UNLEASHING YOUR INNER ENTREPRENEUR TO FIND LOVE is “A ‘must read’ for any woman who wants to secure love and happiness. Hands-down, the best book I’ve read on how to create the love you want.” - Susan E. Winter, bestselling author and relationship expert (as seen on Oprah and The Today Show).

Answer these three questions:

1. Are you tired of the status quo in your love life?
2. Do you feel as though you’re just going through the motions, like you’re some sort of dating zombie, mindlessly following annoying dating rules and tactics to get or hook a man?
3. Do you ever feel like you’re watching your love life in a rearview mirror, helpless to change it?

If the answers are yes, then Skin In the Game: Unleashing Your Inner Entrepreneur to Find Love is for you! By reading this book, you will be inspired to shed your status as an ordinary, unimaginative dater, becoming a DATING ENTREPRENEUR instead, a woman who is committed to and passionate about moving her dating and love venture forward. You will become the CEO, founder, and enTREPreneur of your dating life! This is no fluff dating book; it’s an original, innovative approach to the dating journey, one that teaches smart, savvy, professional women of ALL career backgrounds how to think of themselves as entrepreneurs in their dating and love lives so that they see they have the power to create, build, and shape their love stories, rather than sit and wait to be rescued by some elusive Prince Charming.

Instead of feeling powerless in your dating and love life, Neely shows you how to take the reins, carve your own path, and make your own rules—rules that work for and feel right to you. LOADED with step-by-step instructions, checklists, reflection exercises, and action steps, this revolutionary, well-researched dating book draws from the world of entrepreneurs to guide you towards self-discovery and a fun, purposeful dating venture that blossoms into a healthy happy relationship.

Skin In the Game will show you how to harness the entrepreneurial spirit buried inside of you to move your dating and love venture forward. Here’s just a taste of what you’ll learn:
•How to create a vision of the kind of love you truly desire and work toward building that vision so it becomes your reality!
•Why your single status is not a burden but an incredible opportunity, full of limitless possibilities;
•How dating entrepreneurially will help build your self-esteem and confidence;
•How to think for yourself about your dating life, not what to think;
•How to lean on supporters and mentors who will encourage and inspire you to move your dating venture forward;
•How to tackle your limiting beliefs about yourself, men, and dating;
•How to take action, experiment, and use reflection in your dating life in ways you’ve never done before;
•How to become a better dater, a woman who connects effortlessly with men;
•How to recognize dating failures as learning opportunities;
•How to use your fears (rather than run from them) to push your dating venture forward;
•How to tap into and build your networks to meet men;
•How to create your own opportunities to meet men by being a “blue-sky thinker”;
•And so much more!

Hmmmmmm.....I REALLY have to wonder about a guidebook which lists Gibraltar as part of Spain, which it is not, at least per the Treaty of Utrecht - and which circumstance is, in fact, the source of some tension between the UK and Spain.

Yikes! That is a major faux pas!

I certainly didn't know that was in there. It makes you wonder what other major boo boo that they might have let slip through.

I hope Lonely Planet doesn't have a British edition about to come out. The mud really could hit the fan.

It probably has more to do with geographic proximity than politics.

Great finds! I sure wish that they were available to us Yanks. Ironically, at least one of the books is about the American forces.

There is a way to fool Amazon's computers into thinking that a person lives in a different country than he or she does. A guy from another site posted it elsewhere. He claims, and I believe him, that he wanted to make sure that he wasn't doing anything wrong and even wanted to make sure that he wasn't going to be in any "gray" area. He says that he talked to an Amazon rep and he or she (I've forgotten now which it was) said that it was okay to do it. Anyway, if anyone is interested I can post it on the appropriate Mobileread thread.

D-Day: A Layman's Guide by Scott Addington

Currently free at Amazon US

The book description page says:
Quote:
This guide has been written specifically for people with little or no prior knowledge of D-Day and will serve as an ideal introduction to what can be a very daunting subject.

Written in an engaging way, this is more like an informal chat than a heavy historical text, and with short, sharp chapters this Layman's Guide provides just enough detail to gain a good grounding of knowledge and understanding, without the reader drowing in a sea of detail. That said, all of the major aspects of D-Day are covered in this book, including:

The Atlantic Wall
COSSAC and SHAEF
The role of intelligence
Operation Bodyguard
Invention and Innovation
Operation Deadstick: Pegasus Bridge
The Airborne Assualt
The Merville Battery
The invasion beaches: Utah, Omaha, Juno, Gold and Sword
Pointe du Hoc
Operation PLUTO
Mulberry harbours
The end of 'The Longest Day'
Why the Germans failed to push the invasion back into the sea

For anyone looking for an entertaining and informative overview of D-Day this Layman's Guide is the perfect place to start.

The direct link is http://www.gospelebooks.net/blog/how...the-world.html.

I was mistaken about one thing. I did not have the time to digest the article or even do anything but skim it. Instead of the article being about Americans getting pricing in other countries, it is the opposite: people in other countries getting American pricing. If you read the article, would you let me know if it would work the opposite way?

Even if it won't work the opposite way, I'm going to find the appropriate thread and post it there. It will have been worth the effort for me to locate the article because I'm sure that non-Americans on the Mobilereader site would like to read it. It should save them a lot of money over time and, maybe (like I said, I didn't read the article well) obtain books that are offered for sale on Amazon only to Americans.

He says that he talked to an Amazon rep and he or she (I've forgotten now which it was) said that it was okay to do it. Anyway, if anyone is interested I can post it on the appropriate Mobileread thread.

Some people get away with it, but Amazon's not okay with it. If/when they catch on they send the following email...

Hello from Amazon.

We are writing because the home country registered to your Kindle account may not match your country of residence. Due to publishing rights, the home country registered to your account must match your country of residence.

To continue purchasing titles available for United Kingdom, please send a copy of your valid government-issued identity card, passport, or a utility bill received within the previous 90 days to our secure fax line:

Within the UK: 020 8636 9326
Outside the UK: +44 (0) 20 8636 9326

For your security, you may obscure the passport, ID, or account number. However, we ask that you do not obscure any portion of your name, your address, or any expiration or statement dates.

Your fax will be converted to a secure electronic image that will never be printed. Once we have completed the verification process, we will delete the image.

If you have moved to a different country, you can update your home country in the Manage Your Kindle section of your Amazon account (www.amazon.co.uk/manageyourkindle):

1. Login to amazon.co.uk/manageyourkindle.
2. Click "Country Settings."
3. Click "Change."
4. Choose an existing home address from your account or enter a new one.
5. Click “Update.”

We may restrict your home country setting if you continue to purchase from the catalog of titles for United Kingdom without completing the verification process.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Best regards,
Account Specialist

Thank you very much for the info. If you have not posted the letter on Mobileread before, I am especially glad that you did now.

I am pressed for time today, and I don't have time to read and digest the contents of the letter, and additionally go back and do the same for the information on the gentleman's website, but what I will say following assumes 1) that the letter addresses the particular issue of what the gentleman with the website does and informs other people how to do, and 2) that there is a conflict. If someone sees that different, please let me know.

If you don't mind, I will send a copy of the letter to the gentleman hosting the gospelebooks.net website.

This situation reminds me of that regarding the Internal Revenue Service. They have reps who answer the phone and answer taxpayers' questions. But, there are always disclaimers that if the information that they give is wrong, and the taxpayer follows the rep's information, the taxpayer is still responsible for the taxes that should have been paid, penalties owed because of the taxes not being paid, etc. As I mentioned, the Amazon rep gave certain information to the man who posted the information on his website, but what you have apparently is the official policy of Amazon. In simple terms, what the rep said doesn't matter.
