A. D. Foster - The Damned Trilogy
I believe at least for today there is a discount to $1.99 for this trilogy, "The Damned Trilogy: A Call to Arms, The False Mirror, and The Spoils of War"
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I only read the first one, and it was pretty nice, and a bit humorous, with a device used also in other series (e.g. The Human Chronicles, by T.R. Harris, Elizabeth Mackey) where humans are the physically strongest and fastest in the Galaxy. Funny enough Resume: For millennia, the Weave, an alliance of species, have fought to resist the telepathic Amplitur, who strive to unite all self-aware life-forms in their great “Purpose.” The Weave is slowly losing ground, but for both sides, warfare focuses more on outthinking and outmaneuvering your foe than destruction. In fact, most regard violence as hideously barbaric, and even the thought of harming another sentient being is beyond imagining. Then they come to Earth . . . |

X-link to the Non-Fiction megathread for some bargains with sfnal links:
@ $2.99 in the US only, J. R. R. Tolkien: Author of the Century by Tolkien scholar and retired literature professor Tom Shippey is a biography cum literary analysis, and Isaac Asimov's Guide to Earth and Space by the late Isaac Asimov, a probably not too outdated 1991 science-popularizing title explaining basic and more advanced concepts. Also, bargain @ $1.99 in Canada & the US from the Random Penguin House's Ace Books imprint (price should be the same at all the regular retailers): Children of Dune by the late Frank Herbert, 3rd in his classic Dune series, which apparently gets into diminishing returns with later installments, but this seems to be considered one of the good books according to the enthusiastic customer reviews, wrapping up the core trilogy. And bargain @ $2.99 in Canada & the US from Random Penguin's Del Rey imprint: Legends II: New Short Novels by the Masters of Modern Fantasy edited by Terry Brooks, containing then-newly-written novellas set in well-known authors' popular fantasy worlds, some of which have since been reprinted elsewhere, and others not. At 961 pages, this is pretty good value for money if you like a plurality of the existing universes and/or want to try the others, since the Shannara tale also offered as a standalone costs $3.99 CAD. There's a Pern story by the late Anne McCaffrey (a follow-up to both Moreta and Dragonsdawn, if you're interested; not reprinted elsewhere according to ISFDB), a Robert Silverberg Majipoor story, Tad Williams' Otherland, Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar Saga, Neil Gaiman's American Gods, Diana Gabaldon's Lord John Grey spinoff of her Outlander series, George R. R. Martin's second Dunk & Egg novella (reprinted a few times elsewhere, including in the recent mini-collection which was on sale previously), Terry Brooks' own Shannara, and Robin Hobb, Orson Scott Card, and Elizabeth Haydon also contributing. |

X-link to the YA bargain thread.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3625616 Truthwitch is free today 12-13 only. You have to sign up for the Tor Teen Newsletter and you'll receive an email with a link to the download page. http://ebookclub.torteen.com/?utm_so...nfreeebook1217 Truthwitch is the first book in Susan Dennard’s*New York Timesbestselling Witchlands series, about two best friends who must use their magic to save the world from war and corruption. On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery,” a magical skill that sets them apart from others. There are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well. Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires. Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safiya’s hotheaded impulsiveness. Safiya and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Windwitch Prince Merik, and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.
