I am not sure if this tech will ever be commercialized for readers or tablets. Specially with the latest breakthrough in OLED tech that makes it 30 times more efficient.

The biggest challenge to all new display techs is the ever-improving LCD. I suspect the real use for the chameleon film tech won't be in readers or tablets. |

Your comment: "Expect commercial products using this around 2025-30" should sound a note of caution here. There's a huge difference between demonstrating something in a laboratory and commercial production.

This particular tech has strong military value so it will very likely be actively pursued but its commercial use is going to be more limited. In the tech world 15 years is an eternity. I could've easily have said, "Don't hold your breath for an ereader using this." |

Can't we just train cephalopods to display our ebooks? As a bonus, they're waterproof! :P

I think there would be major ethical issues with using living animals for this type of application. Their short lifespan (an octopus typically has a lifespan of 3-5 years) may also be a concern.

On the gripping tentacle, they can reproduce. Start with two readopuses, ends up with enough for the whole family!
