It's lit, yes, but it's eink and is FRONTLIT. It's a completely different system. The lighting projects down toward the screen. On a backlit device like a tablet or Fire the lighting comes from behind the screen and projects outward. Also, the eink Kindle is black and white...there's no color to use.

But, if you don't need WMA and do want as much storage as possible in a convenient, reliable player, this might be of interest. |

I'd wait until Amazon and Best Buy get this size. The price will be much better. |

Time purchases for Kindles are back - looks like this time for all devices:

No interest No finance charges No hidden fees No credit check or application required How it Works To get started, click on the button below. Add any eligible Kindle e-reader or Kindle Fire tablet to your cart. At checkout, we’ll charge 20% of the device price, plus any applicable tax and shipping charges in full. I don't believe Prime is required.
You must be in the US, have had an Amazon account for 2+ years, have a credit card on file that expires after June 2014 (possibly and other qualifications). Must accept "offer" before purchase, of course. Even with above, not every account qualifies (my 'free books' acct is old enough and has the required CC on it, but doesn't qualify, for example, but my regular acct does). |

Could be. No doubt they profile a bit, but the account that does qualify has a lot of books and several devices on it, so not aimed at those without Kindles (as some others have been).

Thank you for the heads up. Gave my mother a Paperwhite for Christmas, and thinking about buying one for myself. This gives me the a good excuse to go ahead and get another reader!

I would've love to pay only $219 for my Nexus 7. I guess there is always a virtue in being patient.
