Wow the hardware looks great! 1GB of DDR2 DRAM, dual core... Hmm good stuff.
I wonder what the price point will be? =X= |

Yeah, that's kinda scary, but I can't imagine it's going to be more than an iPad, eh?

Sweet, but is there going to be a WiFi only version?

Unlikely
Motorola hasn't come out and directly say that there will never be a wi-fi only version, but the initial production will be like that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab - carrier (Verizon) only. That's too bad. Although this has everything I desire in a "just for fun" tablet, I cannot justify having to pay for a data plan for both a Droid AND a tablet. Ugh! |

This thing looks insane, I hope Motorola and verizon learned some lessons about pricing and contracts from the Samsung Galaxy Tab. They crippled it right from the start.
But this Honeycomb OS and UI really makes the iPad almost look dated. Very impressive indeed. Kind of wished Motorola and Verizon stayed with the Droid name theme though. |

i think it could easily go over the ipad price. the viewsonic g tablet is $400 retail. if you take that unit as a base and tack on the extras that xoom has - ~$100 for 3g modem, maybe $100 + for ips screen, ~$100 for gorilla glass - and you can see it maybe costing $699.99 on contract. |

It's not even out yet. How can they be selling it.

They're not. They put up a pre-order page, then dicked about with the price (first £660, then £720, now 'TBC'); Tech Radar picked this up, turned it into 'news' and lo! traffic is driven all around...
The Xoom's a nice-looking piece of kit; worth noting though that the demo units at CES were apparently just running a video of the OS, so not quite the full interactive hands-on experience some journos and bloggers might be leading everyone to believe. Colour me skeptical, but I can't help but think that if they were bringing this to market at iPad money or less, they'd be screaming it from the rooftops. We'll see. |

yep sorry, i meant pre-selling.
one sad point is that everyone will be comparing the price to the ipad. no matter the specs, extra ports, expandability - if it costs more than an ipad then it may not pick up much steam. if they can make it under $600 for the wifi only or off contract i'll have a hard time telling myself not to get one. |

There was word that a Motorola exec from South America said there would be a WiFi only version for his market.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/m...la-latin-amer/ Also while the Xoom was running a demo video it was running from the Android 3.0 OS They would "lift the skirt" and give you a peek when asked |
