You probably need to use embedded fonts, which Kobo (via Adobe RMSDK) should support.

If you have Kobo Touch, the latest firmware 1.9.6 supports custom font. You need GentiumPlus font.

Download them here:
http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/p...nload#02b091ae

Create a folder called fonts at root of kobo touch map drive, drop the 2 GentiumPlus fonts in the created folder.

Open the epub, tap middle screen and select font menu, pick the gentiumplus and vietnameese chars will be correctly displayed!

Hope it helps!

Don't know about the first gen of kobo reader or the wifi version. I couldn't get the character display fixed until the custom support comes out.
I've tried reencode the epub file using overwriting extra css code but no luck and probably I wasn't sure if what I was doing was right.
I did use the css code to set the GentiumPlus which seems to support such type of characters like chinese or more. But it falls to a domain I don't have expertise. But something for sure, none of the extra fonts and the default ones could display the vietnamese language correctly except GentiumPlus though I haven't tried specific designed viet font like vscii, vni ...

I'm sure kobo touch can display chinese character in epubs and, also the chinese book name in the book list, but you should add a chinese font TTF to the kobo touch's storage at first.

Now kobo touch can't display chinese character correctly on txt and html formats.
