It does seem strange that he hasn't gone the James Patterson route of handing an outline to his syndicate and letting someone else do the actual writing; I'm sure there are a bazillion up and coming authors who would kill to have their name (in very small print) on a cover (far) below Martin's.

Perhaps he's suffering from "the dog in the manger" syndrome....

Stratemeyer (Hardy Boys, Bobbsie Twins, Nancy Drew), Leslie Charteris (The Saint).

In the past the actual author often didn't get mentioned at all if it was called hired work. An exploitive concept for creative work rather than check out operator, shelf stacker, production line, truck driver etc.

Based on my experience with books 4 and 5, I believe he's lost in the series and doesn't know how to end it. He knows in general how to end it, he told HBO that for the TV series, but the more detailed book, he's lost in. He may have too many loose ends to know how to wrap it all up. Ever wonder what happened to Catelyn Stark? I got the impression she survived the slaughter, but 4 and 5 didn't mention her, and neither did the TV series. Just one example of a loose end. No telling how many loose ends he has that he doesn't know what to do with. It could be his editor saying, 'you need to fix this', and maybe he can't.

No as she is Lady Stoneheart.

But yes he has lost the plot to his own series. Books will probable end just like the TV series and be a complete let down and sh1t.

Nice to know, thanks. But it doesn't really matter, I won't be reading books 6 and 7 (when it debuts in 2035).

His publisher/editor should just commission an AI to complete the series. At this point, they can probably do better with it than GRRM.

Someone analysed the Douglas Adams Hitch-hiker series and discovered each book had progressively less new content.

I noticed that pattern with Arthur C. Clarke's 2001, 2010, 2061. I don't remember if there was a bunch of repeat info in 3001.

I just find it hard to believe that anyone cares anymore. It’s over.

I was one of those 'lucky' readers who read the series after A Dance of Dragons had been published, before the TV Series. I like the books, but as many of you have said, he has too many loose ends and it seems like all he does is create more instead of tying those up. Remember Golden Companion and whoever used to be the Hand, I can't remember anymore.

I also have stopped caring, especially after the horrible last two seasons. If only many writers out there have opportunities like what he has and not smirking at his fans instead.
