They also have some that are legal PD ebooks that the seller has downloaded from sites like Gutenberg etc. Some such have been useful in the past if a person has a slow connection and is trying to build a collection. I do agree though that you have to be careful about what you are buying as some people do probably advertise for books that aren't PD and for which they don't have the rights.

i believe those people list those popular books which are not free.

I've run across pirated books on all the major ebook stores that allow 3rd parties to upload books (which is pretty much every ebook store that is not tied to a specific publisher). It really comes down to the business model of allowing publishers to handle all the details of uploading the books. Given how difficult it is to determine who actually owns the publishing rights of a given book, especially in cases where the author is dead or is somewhat obscure, it's pretty hard to not have that happen.

Agreed. That's why I put the link back (though I removed the portion that led to clearly pirated content). We're not going to police legitimate sites--they need to do that for themselves. We will, however, remove links to sites that exist solely to allow others to share, download, buy/sell pirated content.
