I bought a Kobo Aura 2 at a Walmart a few years ago.
I travel a lot and see a lot of Walmarts.
Only a few stores had the Kobos and it was all just a cardboard SKU you had to take to the lockup.

In the past I bought a lot of stuff from Walmart with in-store pickup.
I mean truck front-end parts from Moog and computer motherboards.
I don't know if they cut down on that.
Every time I consider a purchase I check to see if Walmart does in-store pickup.
Recently, it never seems to be offered.

I bought an Aura 2 (in store) at Walmart also. And I bought my Clara for pick up at Walmart. I like that Walmart used to be a Kobo dealer. I wish the Rakuten partnership had stayed in effect.

Kobo gift cards (as Walmart e gift cards) are no longer available for purchase at Walmart.com.

I was still able to get gift cards there as late as September.

End of an era. Guess I'll be using PayPal moving forward when I've gotta make an overseas purchase.

Well the walmart deal was a joke. KOBO section was hidden from sight and the employees did not even know what an ereader was SMH and the good models had to be ordered and were not in store not to mention no advertisement of the product being at walmart

The most important thing is available underseas. That would be the cables that carry the Internet.

Smile E-Reader Stores

I wish there were physical stores that sold E-Readers so that one could touch. It would make it easier to assess to buy or not to buy.

Amen
I wanted to touch and see the screen before I first bought my first reader (EZReader pocket pro. a 5" version of the 6" that was at Fry's.)
Same goes with most of my electronics. I want to see the controls and what IO (on the back).

Even with that, I did get faked out with a early RGB input CRT TV with a composite inputs on the side and back. It turned out those were the same input (share in the fine print) when I had wanted 2.

Walmart did have a display. They just had the high end Kobo models there. I had to order the Aura2 for pickup. That probably hurt sales numbers. If they even had a Pulltag system (where you pick up at the counter) for IMMEDIATE delivery would have discouraged "I order it later" . (Ducks is from a 3rd generation of merchants. We know how to do 'the Swartz' )

I've got three stores in a 5 mile radius that could sell me a Tolino Shine 6" (Carta 1300) for 119 €.

That's not a bad device if what you want to do is read and not spend all your time hacking it.

Edit: Diving into the reviews it doesn't seem there is much to recommend this. No Adobe Digital Editions DRM. Web browser is not a serious effort. Complaints about sorting, etc.

The funny thing about reviews, some people new to it all will give things 5 stars because they have no expectations. "Wow, I can read a book on the subway!"

Do they not have them in Best Buys anymore? Or was that not a thing in the U.S?
