Quote:
You can further restrict the books shown in a Virtual library by using Additional restrictions. An additional restriction is saved search you previously created that can be applied to the current Virtual library to further restrict the books shown in a Virtual library. For example, say you have a Virtual library for books tagged as Historical Fiction and a saved search that shows you unread books, you can click the Virtual Library button and choose the Additional restriction option to show only unread Historical Fiction books.
There's an option on the menu to use the current search. However, this saves it in the menu.

You can't, except by restarting. And this is by design so you can switch between it and another or no VL.

Ah, restarting clears it. That's good.

Another Question

I'm trying to figure out how to jump to the next Marked book in my library (for various reasons). I want to see the UnMarked books surrounding the Marked book.

I have Search set to Highlight. For a test I marked a number of books, then went to the top of the library and entered "Marked:true" (without quotes) and hit F3, it jumped to my first marked book but when I hit F3 again it stays on the first Marked book. F3 (or N, I tried both) are suppose to go to the next book that matches the current search. But for Marked books it doesn't do that, it stays at the first Marked book.
If I remove the Mark from the first book then F3 will move me to the next Marked book, but I'd rather not due that as I may want to view just the Marked books later.

Is there a better way to do this?

On Win11 with calibre 7.20.101, after doing these steps:
  • Search for something.
  • Mark all the results.
  • Set search to highlight.
  • Search for marked:true. The marked books are highlighted.
F3 takes me to the next marked book, skipping the unmarked ones. N does the same thing.

What OS and which version of calibre are you running? If on Linux, are you using Wayland? Is F3 remapped to a different function?

F3, works for me on Windows 10, using calibre versions 7.20 and latest preview release 7.20.101.

I accidentally dragged and dropped a file onto the Comments field in the MDE. This caused the file:// path to get copied in. Is this intentional?

yes, what else would you expect when dropping a random file type in there? It's either do nothing or paste the URL to the file.

I'm not sure where to put my little question. So I'll ask it here.
Normally, when I connect my Kindle to my laptop, Calibre will show me a note about how to keep the cover visible on the Kindle.
Maybe I accidentally pressed some option, so that note is no longer there. Where can I turn it back on, I like that reminder, and sometimes I want to read more carefully.
Thank you very much.

Go to Calibre Preferences > Behaviour > Reset all disabled confirmation dialogs. As implied, this'll reset all of the disabled confirmations (and Kovid has mentioned in the past he doesn't have interest in having them individually toggled).

Yes, thank you very much.

Is there a shorter way to do this search?

Code:
#purchasesource:true AND (date:=2013 OR date:=2014 OR date:=2015 OR date:=2016 OR date:=2017 OR date:=2018 OR date:=2019)

I can't help but think along the lines of AND DATE >= 2013 AND DATE <= 2019

Peter beat me to it but I'd use an even shorter version:

#purchasesource:true (date:>=2013 date:<=2019)

the 'and' is implicit
