Has anyone seen the video from Chris Pirillo regarding the latest eInk technology as featured in CES 2013? It has color display and supports 4096 colors.

Some neat stuff. I'm not sure that I'm really excited about any of them, but it's good to see they're working on ways of improving the product. I don't know that I have much need for colour e-ink, for example, but if it were cheap enough, I guess I'd buy one.

I assume fully functioning colour e-ink tablet would have a battery life of days where as the current LCD tablets last hours. That would be of interest.

I'm most interested in the flexible display. It will allow for lighter, more durable readers. The color, I'd get it if the price comes down to be comparable to mono e-ink displays.

If they improve the number of colors and increase the refresh rate, color e-ink could supplant LCD.

It's still the horrible "Triton" colour screen, which isn't a genuine colour screen at all, but merely a colour mask sitting on top of a normal B&W screen, reducing the linear resolution by a factor of two. The frontlight may perhaps reduce the wishy-washy unsaturated colours of the Triton screen, but I shan't be waiting in line to buy one.

I'd rather have the higher resolution B&W 8" screen with the front light then the Triton layer lowering the resolution, giving us washed out colors with glare and decreasing the contrast. eInk color is going to raise the price for something we (the royal we) don't actually want.

If I could get a Jetbook Color without the Triton layer, with a font light screen, and firmware not done by Ectaco, it could be a good device.

The Jetbook color has an eInk layer that has a resolution of 1600x1200. But when color is used, that drops to 800x600 on a 9.7" screen. That's not good. The 1600x1200 resolution would be very nice for reading. But not the 800x600.

I just can't get excited about color eInk.

Like the others who posted before, high resolution b/w eInk would be very exciting.
