I think it'll end like so many other enthusiastic but amateur attempt - a software company suddenly figures out 'gee, all these big guys are blind, they don't understand what the people want but we *know* it' and starts working on it... then comes the first problems when you have to deal with hardware limitations, price/design compromises etc. Anyone ever been involved in a process like that knows what I'm talking about - unless they are extremely well off it is highly unlikely that a newcomer small firm will break both Amazon and Sony... they might have smaller overhead but it also means lot less engineering resources (let alone expertise - Sony has infinite hardware design experience to dig from...) Look at iRex: they did it and they ended up outside of a regular user's price range - and bringing a product to the market, the introduction etc is really expensive game and support is even more and when you don't really sell in numbers but you have to support all of them... Here I hope I'm wrong but doubt it. |

im full of glee and smiles with so many readers being released/announced/prototyped OTHER than oppressive kindles, this is great, bluetooth,8gb minisd, and mobile network for downloads.. bring on all the competitors, i hope more and more epub and mobi devices with multi format support flood the market and gain market share before kindles wind up with mobile data in australia and europe

This is only partially true, on the Sony PRS-700 you can annotate.
