Troubleshooting Has anyone gotten a Paperwhite 1 to register in 2025?

I'm looking to register mine again so I can do WinterBreak, but for the life of me, I can't get it to register. Trying to log in to an existing account just loops back to the registration menu with no error displayed, and trying to register a new account shows Unable to Load. This is on multiple firmwares including the very latest (5.6.1.1), multiple wi-fi networks, trying multiple accounts, factory resetting multiple times. Amazon Support can't help and don't know what's wrong.

Now I'm wondering if the software is hitting non-existent API endpoints or something and there's no way it'll ever work, but I can't find any recent info on it. So I thought I'd ask here: has anyone gotten one to register in 2025?

Do you have two factor authentication enable for your amazon account? You need to check for the code with one of the methods you have chosen (text message or authenticator app), and append it to the password I believe. An old Kindle won't prompt you for it.

Newer Kindles let you register by using Kindle app to supply credentials via BT but that feature came later.

One of the keys is that you must set up 2FA in order to register an older Kindle. You don't have to keep it turned on, but it must have been configured, as attempting to register the Kindle will send a code to any "push" method you have set up. You can't use a 2FA app that generates the codes...you need to have a code sent by Amazon.

If 2FA is currently enabled on your account, then on the second registration attempt, you use the "password+code" as the password. If 2FA is disabled, you use just the 2FA code as the password.
