Kobo Collection Manager

Hi,

I made a Kobo Collection Manager. With help from Claude.ai.

See https://jcremers.com/Kobo.html

It works on my Kobo Libra 2 but is not yet tested on other devices.
But according to the bot it should work on most Kobo's because they all use the same database, KoboReader.sqlite, and all handle collections the same way.

I could successfully add and delete books to / from a collection.

It has a backup / restore for the database feature too.

Kobo Collection Manager Help

Main Window:
- Left side: Collections and their books
- Right side: Books without collections

Menu Options:
- Create Collection: Make new collection
- Upload books, this will ask for the name of the map you want and create it if it does not exist. You can upload multiple books at once.
It will also ask if you want to make a collection with the name of that map if that does not yet exist and add the books.
- Backup: Save current Kobo database
- Restore: Load saved database to Kobo

Using Collections:
- Drag books from right to collections on left.
- Select multiple books with Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click
- Press Delete to remove book from collection, or complete collection.

- A double click on a book will show that book if it can be executed on your pc (using fbreader or similar)
- When you double click on a book in the box with books without collections and you get 'not found' you can Use Cleanup Database.

Important:
- Always work with database backup first
- Restart Kobo after making changes;

Calibre does all this automatically, when you connect your Kobo.

But it's probably a great option for those who don't use Calibre.

I dislike calibre and i'm probably not the only one.
Besides, 'does all this automatically' is a bit too rosy to me.

Well, it does, or rather the Kobo driver in calibre does. I've maintained my collections this way for many years.

But yeah, I'm well aware calibre is not everyone's cup of tea and it's great there are other options.

- Added function to upload books

- Upload books, this will ask for the name of the map you want and create it if it does not exist. You can upload multiple books at once.
It will also ask if you want to make a collection with the name of that map if that does not yet exist and add the books.
- you can now also delete complete collections by pressing delete on a collection name, you are asked if you want to delete books as well.

ps, I don't even need to restart the kobo after modifying things, collections and books just show up, do remember to safely remove hardware though.

Edit: it's offline for now, i want to do a bit more testing.
Edit: it's online again, i did some thorough testing, everything works fine.
Also added a dialog screen for uploading.

Released a new version.
Did some thorough testing.
Added a dialog screen for uploading books, either to a new collection or to an existing.
All working fine.

You need to add an automatic mode. Without it, it's a bit too manual.

This looks to be a build issue by the tool creator; this is a run-time library required by Delphi apps.

Will look into the rtl290.bpl

What do you mean? Did you try the software?

I've made a board on my forum for this.

Pc, win11 .... error solve ... but: file-create collection, add "book" ..next ...error "Can't open database: unable to open database file"?

after creating the collection it tries to load the database again, and it can't find it anymore. Maybe the kobo got disconnected?
If you connect the kobo do you see something like 'Connected to X: (Y collections, Z books). in the caption of the program? That means the database is successfully opened and you should see your books and collections.

thanks for your patience, i appreciate the feedback.
