Hi, thanks for this! I have a question. I've been following kindlemodding's instructions and installed winterbreak but after 10 minutes it still says "Jailbreaking - Please Wait...". Above appears "Finished installing jailbreak. Please install hotfix now" but "Now you are ready to install the hotfix" doesn't. Do I have to wait more?

Hi, I have the same behaviour on my Kindle Scribe 2022 firmware 5.17.3.
How did you solve that ?

Hi, I've read a few pages of the thread but couldn't find someone with this issue (I'm on a PW6, firmware is 5.17.1):

So basiccaly I fked up and reset my PW6 with the OTAblocker still active.
I realized this fk up only when I couldn't do the update step required for the hotfix, and then I went on and reset it again and did the "recovering from a reset" procedure from the kindlemodding site.

And that's where I am stuck rn because when I use the "restore" option in KUAL, I just get sent back to the home screen and it doesn't seem like anything happens.

Does anyone know what I should do to fix this and get the jailbreak to work ?

I'm having trouble getting this jailbreak to work on my kindle. I followed all the steps, stayed in airplane mode, rebooted, opened the kindle store. But where the jailbreak is supposed to start after opening the kindle store, mine "updates" and then looks regular. No option to start the jailbreak. I tried factory reset, reboot, and deregistering my kindle. I also tried following the troubleshooting section on the kindlemodding website. Any ideas?

Has anyone gotten it working on a Paperwhite 1? Tried a few times but the store just loads normally without the WinterBreak icon appearing.

Got the same issue on the normal kindle 11th gen.

Paperwhite ONE has very old FW (5.6.x something). You should be able to use JB methods from that times. Maybe in NiLuJe’s Snapshots (K5 Jailbreak archive).

It looks like you might be missing some of the jailbreak files. Are you sure you unzipped the “WinterBreak.tar.gz” archive and copied all the extracted files to the root of your Kindle, including the “.active_content_sandbox” folder?

I downloaded the winterbreak file but I can't extract it to the kindle.

I have an Oasis 10th Gen loaded with 5.17.1.0.3.
I've copied all the files to the Kindle...including the "hidden files".
Step by step has been followed, but the Kindle never has the ICON to even run the jailbreak.

Is there some step we are missing?

Kindle firmware greater than or equal to 5.16.3 do not export a file syatem over USB Mass Storage. You have to use MTP.

Minor nit: The Scribe, ColorSoft, Kindle 11th gen 2024 and Paperwhite 12th gen are the only Kindles that will use an MTP connection. A Paperwhite 11th gen on 5.17.1.0.3 still mounts as a USBMS device.

The 11th gen 5.27.1.04 suggests a Kindle 11th Gen 2024 release which should be visible over MTP. Depending on what OS the computer is, they may have to play with MTP drivers or enabling or disabling auto-mount.

A 2024 Paperwhite 5.17.1.0.4 plugged into my Windows 11 computer does mount a file system, just not as much of the file system as the USBMS devices.

The usual suggestions trying different USB cables, ports and/or computers come to mind.

I didn't know there are models running 5.17.x with USB storage. I'll try to remember. I think that goes beyond minor.
