Also probably on an ARM one as Calibre is fine on the Raspberry Pi4 too, but that's not so portable and is more expensive by the time you add case, keyboard, display, battery packs etc.

[* A currently supported 2023 model is supported to 2031 and has out of Beta simple Crostini Linux install built in, a minimal Debian 12, though ChromeOS is now Gentoo Linux]
Does grsync sync the Calibre database too?

Personally I think info about books is one thing, but I think people using a public website (Goodreads, storygraph, bookworm etc) to list what they personally have read is mad. This is an opinion.
I totally agree. That practice is a Profilers paradise.
Just look at all the ads you see just because you VISITED (not searched for) a web site.
And while I choose to not use free g-mail (heavily mined). How am I supposed to communicate with all of those that jumped on 'FREE e-mail'?
YOU gave away my privacy for a 'FREE'

There are things I don't like about Goodreads, especially the relentless advertising and dreadful recommendations. C'mon, Goodreads, I've rated over 3,000 books. You've got the data; use them.

However. No other site can match its depth of book data and I benefit from and enjoy seeing what like-minded friends have enjoyed and negative reviews have saved me from popular books that wouldn't have been to my taste. I really wanted to switch to StoryGraph with its lack of advertising, but its relative lack of book data and its clunky interface sent me back to Goodreads.

I care not one iota if people want to rate books that haven't come out. It doesn't affect me. What I wish is that Goodreads would stop using people's to-read lists as part of its book-matching algorithm. There are people who've got to-read lists in the five figures! They should limit it to books they've rated.

It syncs whatever you tell it to.
1) Have both Calibre programs closed.
2) Normally I don't overwrite newer destination files, so for direction of sync, remember which last used.
3) only change stuff on the Calibre you are syncing from

grsync is just a GUI on rsync.

I go to the bookstore with a bag. They don't sell ebooks.

(There are Chromebooks that turn into a tablet, and those have a touch screen, my very cheap one is like the Linux Netbooks of old, except works better (real programs, fast enough and enough storage, and happens to also have Android apps. It's basically an 11" ultra skinny laptop).

I use a workstation at home.

I go to the bookstore with my iPhone.
On my iPhone I have a simple spreadsheet (Calibre export) that lists all the books I own. I have been caught out in the past purchasing duplicates.
Though it's been a very long time since I purchased from a retail bookstore, instead preferring second hand bookstores near me. Have you seen how pricey pbooks have become? Geez, they are into the $40 and $50 range for some fiction titles.

As for the original thread question...
No, I don't have any accounts at any online book site. So I don't list books anywhere except Calibre and my iPhone.

Now? Back in the days when I purchased second hand books (mainly sci-fi and mystery), if the book was a bit special, it will go over the top for sure...

I don't care for Storygraph's layout. The star rating is at the bottom of the page. Too much emphasis on the reviews and detailed descriptions like mood, pacing, etc.
Goodreads data is still more comprehensive and complete. Although there are supposedly ads, it is still free. For recording what I've read Goodreads works for me.

You can easily create a catalogue file from Calibre that's suitable for a phone. More so than a spreadsheet, but it can be imported to a spreadsheet.
You can also create a Calibre catalogue as an ebook (epub, azw3, mobi, PDB for Palm OS PDA etc).

I know, I use them massively but they are "a bit" big for checking them in the phone. But, in any case, to each its own, every person is comfortable with different settings.

I write them down in a small notebook

Even if I always read on ereader, app or pc I write down my readers in a book. Title, Author and pages (traditional book pages)
