I got a bit bored. They began to feel 'samey'.

I slogged through the first one. I found the premise underlying the series dumb.

But then again, I find most time travel stories an exercise is dumbness.

Well, it was free (I imagine I got it via this very thread), and I don't think I'd read the first one yet.

Apparently I'm in the minority here. I thoroughly enjoyed The Chronicles of St. Marys and the Time Police series. All 19 novels and 16 shorter stories to date. Going in I knew they were light hearted fluff and got what I expected. The fact that I listened to them instead of reading them may have contributed to my enjoyment. The narrator was great. Her comedic timing was fantastic (in my opinion).

The trouble is that humour is subjective; I found the humour in the first book not to my taste - in fact, I find most modern humour to be deeply unfunny. But then I grew up listening to radio shows like Round the Horne and watching Monty Python and The Goodies...

Yep, Zara Ramm is perfect for this series. I've read & listened to them all except the Pennyroyal one that just came out.

Try again. You may have missed something. It's a very good series.

Well, the books are not like anything that passes for humor these days on the BBC. They are actually funny and enjoyable.

Highly unlikely. The time travel aspect is incoherent, from start to finish. Volume one is both brutal and depressing. (We are talking about the same book? Just One Damned Thing after Another?)

A happier (and better built) time travel trilogy is Joshua Dann's Timeshare trilogy.

Marooned in Realtime is still the best time travel story I've ever read or seen.
(note: I don't consider All You Need is Kill aka "Edge of Tomorrow" as time travel because it isn't time travel per se. It's save scumming reality.)

What killed it for me in book 1 was the inconsistencies. Outerwear was absolutely authentic; but underwear - anything went - sports bras, y-fronts etc. I mean, come on - why bother being authentic in the first place???

It's very coherent and understandable.
