Looks like Newegg has already sold a few of the 7.8" color readers. They're already out of stock ― and got them in on the 15th.

Sure, 100 dpi is universal, it's the number of pixels within an inch. The Inkpad Color has a higher resolution but it's spread out over a larger canvas (6 inch vs 7.8 inch).

So really the only difference is that you can make the font bigger and see the same amount of text, or you can have more text on the page, or see an image less shrunken on the 7.8" I have a KK3 6" and a Kindle DXG 9.7", the main difference is as I outlined in the last paragraph. They are similar DPI. I have 6" and 7" 300 dpi. I have the slightly lower dpi Original H2O which is 6.8". It actually looks slightly better because there is no capacitive layer, it's IR touch. The 7.8" Mars looks best in bright ambient light, but not as bright as the Original H2O, nothing is (all compared with no front light and a decent reading lamp). Is the Mars actually 320 dpi? Certainly it's very sharp. The same total number of pixels DOES look better on a smaller screen than a larger, i.e. the 5" PRS-350 compared to any 6" screen also 800 x 600. |

PocketBook claims in their press release, that the new device uses a slightly improved color display over last years 6" model.
They call it "new Kaleido" and it supposedly uses a different color filter pattern, that offers better contrast and color saturation. -> https://www.theverge.com/2021/2/15/2...able-now-price A Pocketbook employee posted a comparison of the 6" and 7,8" model on another forum: |

My Pocketbook Inkpad Color is here.
I have it sitting next to the 6" Pocketbook Color, and the difference is obvious. The new device has the much better screen. |

Less grey background when reading text? That was my main issue with the Pocketbook Color from last year.

I’m curious about that ^^ too. Is it good enough overall that Kobo and Amazon will finally step in the Kaleido waters?

The sooner the better. The more screens that are bought, they quicker they will drop in price.

Wow nate The great I am so curious I have two questions:
When you read comics in color mode is the resolution good enough to read the text? when you read in black and white mode is the font contrast as good as a standard ebookreader like kindle or kobo? Thank you! |

And about reading normal ebooks? Is it visible the old Kaleido layer that causes the little grey points in the screen like in PB633 color?

There are not really colour and mono modes, but colour and mono documents. It's a passive patterned filter carefully aligned on top of an eink screen. Maybe directly printed, I don't know how it's applied.
Stronger colour means you need more front light or more ambient light. |
