I do like to drink alcohol. But I do not drink all that much or to excess. i drink most when I'm on vacation and the drinks are included.

When I was growing up, my parents trusted us (my sister and I) because the did not lock the liquor cabinet. It was very accessible. But I didn't steal a drink.

My sister and I usually order groceries to be delivered on Monday. I prefer the 10am-1pm window, otherwise it's 6pm-8pm and we'll have a late dinner.

Because I was returned from my vacation around 11am today I did plan the delivery for late afternoon/early evening for once.

Half an hour before the delivery I get a message that there were problems with the delivery and that they rescheduled it for tomorrow. They didn't plan it for the original time slot, but at 7am!

But isn't the point of living in a European city that you can buy the fixings for a meal with a 5 minute walk?

I've often lived in the US where it was at least a 30 minute drive to buy even a pack of ramen noodles.

Semi unrelated: I like in Germany where you can buy "Suppengrün", a collection of soup vegetables tied up with string for €1 and change.

There is a supermarket nearby. And I usually go there twice a week for some fresh things or lunch. But it’s a smaller supermarket and doesn’t have all the things we regularly eat.

In the Netherlands you typically get most of the weekly groceries once a week, either by going to the supermarket (a bigger one)themselves or having it delivered. And it isn’t unusual to run errands once or twice a week to get things you forgot/fresh items/items that weren’t in stock during the weekly shop.

I typically go to the nearby supermarket on Monday, to get something for lunch and bread and then either on Friday or Saturday to get (fresh) things for weekend lunch and dinner.

I have friends in a US city and he does the only food shopping once a week with a complete plan for each meal of the week. He does all the cooking. She does everything BUT the food shopping/cooking. It works for them.

I could never know what I feel like eating in a few days. I like grocery shopping every day. It gets me out of the house.

My family does that as well, even though we're surrounded by supermarkets and could do more day by day spontaneity if we felt like it. We also stock our freezers with warehouse club deals, and do some of our menu planning based on what's on hand.

I hate shopping, so I only do it when I run out of something. But I don't much like frozen stuff, and that means shopping a couple of times per week. Some things just don't keep very long.

As to supermarkets, there are several of them less than 1 km from my home.

Today I was a lady in waiting.

Yesterday's groceries were going to be delivered between 7am and 10am, so I got up at 6am and was ready downstairs at 6.45.

At 9am the deliver truck came. They rooted around in the truck for a while and then made a phone call. Then he came, empty handed, up to me. He didn't have the order, it was accidentally put in the wrong truck. But customer service would contact me about what was going to happen. When, two and a half hours later, I hadn't heard from them I called myself. Customer service had nothing in their system so they would contact the deliver hub and call me back. Which they did just after noon, with the message that within 5 minutes my order would be delivered. Which actually did happen. But I was somewhat miffed that I got up at 6am for a noon delivery.

Then my sister was expecting a package that wouldn't not fit in our package box but was also so big that it would not be nice to have it delivered at a neighbour. It would arrive between 10.20 and 2.20pm. At three it wasn't delivered and my sister saw on the tracking page the estimated delivery time now was changes to "before 6pm". That time came and went and by the time my sister got home after 7pm the status was now changed to "delivery before the end of the day" (euphemism "we don't know if it's going to be delivered today"). So far, 9pm, it hasn't been delivered.

So today I waited for over 12 hours on things. I haven't been able to do what I wanted to do today and it looks like running errands won't happen tomorrow unless FedEx decides to come early, which is unlikely because their delivery time for our neighbourhood seems to be some time in the afternoon.

I cranky now, so I'm going to take a hot shower and was some trash YouTube content afterwards.

Yeah, deliveries are pesky. Some businesses handle some carriers. I used to pick up Fedex packages at a Safeway. The store opened at 6 AM (a convenient time for me) but the "Customer Service" counter only opened at 9 AM despite plenty of employees milling around.

Don't get me going on Amazon lockers. They've always fallen through for me. All the lockers were full so they sent the package to some business counter miles away.

My last apartment they installed private package lockers just as I moved out.

What I find annoying about Amazon is we get the map showing the delivery is not that far away. It may be 8 stops away. The driver seems to be stuck at the same location and then eventually moves. It seems to take a lot longer then 8 stops.

This does not always happen. But often enough.

Yesterday we got our new washing machine and dryer (both Siemens). We did the initial cycle you have to do the first time it's on. So today we're going to really use it for the first time.

I've downloaded both the manuals and read through them. One of the biggest drawbacks of the washing machine is that you kinda need to download the app to make use of all the functions. Apparently there are more types of washing programs available in the app. The washing machine also needs to connect to wifi.

I already downloaded the app, but you need to an account and we'll probably have to do that on my sister's email account, since she registered both machines for extra warranty using her email address.

Personally, I think unlocking extra programs on a washing machine with an app is BS. The whole concept of connecting your washing machine to wifi is BS.
