Although, honestly, ebook files are so miniscule I also keep a few extra copies of my library on spare SD cards. I have hundreds and have come nowhere near filling some old 2 GB SD cards I had leftover from my first digital camera. The biggest danger to an SD card is writing and re-writing, which I don't do with my archives. (The SD Association claims an expected lifespan of 10 years or more.) As far as "real books" go -- you're right only if your books were printed on acid-free archival materials. Go to a used book store and check out the effects of yellowing, foxing, mold, mildew, silverfish, book worms, etc. ![]() Last edited by cromag; 01-30-2014 at 12:11 AM. |

The thing that really gets me is how they claim that there's a security risk for 2.01 at the same time that they release 3.0 and they want you to update to 3.0 in order to "protect" yourself against hijacking. Talk about a trojan horse.

They did that even with Photoshop. There was a bug in CS 5.x, and they said to patch it asap. A month later, the "patch" was upgrading to the new CS6. (@ €249). Public outrage made them patch CS5.x as well, later on.

This is in addition to those alleged plans for "streaming"/online authorization, alienating older e-readers, and other measures that are all inconvenient and require jumping through hoops without benefiting the customer. |

I'll see where this go. I buy most (if not all), my books on kobo. So, if I get slapped in the face, i'll still be able to at read the book, even if I can't de-DRM. Streaming if a big no no for me, my main reading place, aka the metro, have no network ! |

Yes, the option of getting books in kepub format from Kobo, thus side-stepping Adobe, is pretty much what I look at as my mid-term solution for mainstream books (and Baen/Smashwords for the more niche stuff). Ideally, I'd like to avoid Amazon as I feel it's only a matter of time until they introduce stricter DRM.

What android app can download ADE books that I can then use in my preferred reading app which is currently Moon+ pro? I used to get samples in the Kobo app, but it seems that all books I try there are at least double spaced now and I don't see any way to fix this.

Probably aldiko and bluefire as well. And unless the app you want to use can read drm as well... Last edited by EowynCarter; 01-30-2014 at 03:07 PM. |

Any more specific information, additional to already written text, about the new DRM? Will it be applied every time or only if the publisher has the new Adobe Content Server installed? Which publishers have the new Adobe Content Server installed and how is the compatibility with existing e-book reader?
