Ummm no. Buying two lottery tickets doesn't make your chance of winning a million dollar lottery "good" and doing what you described does not make the chance of two hard drives failing at the same time good. Marginally higher yes but losing all your possessions in a fire is more likely.

Excellent idea - but how much bandwidth does it take to re-download a couch?

Silly question, obviously it depends on the couch and your compression method...

Yep. But I'd never sit on a lossy couch.

I wasn't comparing the odds to anything else. But the odds are increased, as you say.

Right, back to bashing Adobe...

There is a site out there on the internet which I will not name which has 1,800,000 ebooks on last count at $0.05 and/or 95% less than amazon, with no DRM (obviously that got stripped)
and where you can place a request and the book be provided without DRM in no time

Reading this thread and how publishers want to treat their customers makes me glad for existence of pirates and existence of Amazon who would probably tell these publishers to shove their DRM where the sun doesnt shine!

There is a difference between piracy and hating DRM because it restricts you doing what you want with files you have paid for.

More draconian DRM schemes make the offerings made by pirates much more appealing.

I bought hundreds of books on Amazon, I would not have bought any if i was not able to strip the DRM.

The publishers are shooting themselves in the foot, anyways their businesses are dying, every day Amazon grows larger and is already a much more attractive option for new authors.

I agree with this but the writers still deserve to be paid, they get nothing when piracy prevails.

Big difference.

Downloading pirated books* is bad enough. Don't add dumb on top of it by actually paying the pirates.

*citizens of countries that permit the downloading of copyrighted material for personal use can assume I'm not talking to them (except for the part about not being dumb enough to pay pirates).

I don't believe any Retailer can legally strip DRM .

Retailers can ADD their DRM (unless their contract prohibits applying DRM)
