I have a two collections. One for Standalone books. I don't think I have them all in there. I'll have to double check. And the other for Star Trek books.

I would like Kobo to completely disable the touch screen on their ebook readers that have buttons, when a reader wants to achieve this action, using only the buttons to turn pages.

None of this half-assed swiping nonsense. Just disable the touch screen and then turn the ebook reader off and then back on to reset. (You KNOW, like on my beloved Kindle Oasis.)

That sounds gross. And unusable.
I'm still annoyed I can't change books with gloves on.

You need to buy touch screen compatible gloves.

I did...they worked with my last kobo, and they work with my phone, but not the kobo I have currently.

For that to work Kobo would first have to make sure their page-turn buttons function 100% of the time.

I still have an issue at least once-a-day on my Sage where the page-turn buttons inexplicably stop working until I manually touch the screen to initiate a page-turn, then the buttons will resume functionality again.

Page-turning via the buttons also seems to have this nasty habit of interpreting one press as several events and progressing two pages or more instead of one, or even getting it stuck into a page-flipping loop until I manually stop it. It's quite frustrating. Hardware buttons should not be less reliable than touch events!

I've never had that problem, maybe your buttons have dirt caught in them or are worn. Hardware devices wear out and jam, just like software inevitably has bugs.

But that's not the worst of it. The whole kobo UI is designed around the touch screen and lots of functionality would be unavailable without it.

The original Libra is OK. The Libra2 isn't as good. I've tested FIVE Sage models and the page turn from button press is unusable for narration or cue (speech) use. It's not the switches, but the software. Sometimes you have to swipe, then button returns. Also sometimes it advances one or two extra pages.

I agree that I'd like an option to turn off touch page turn (and other touch separately as sometimes I annotate a lot). You can't turn off all touch unless they brought out a model with a few more buttons (Back/Cancel, Menu, Search, MyBooks). The Sony PRS-x50 or Sony PSR-T2 are examples of a mix of touch & buttons.

I've kept an original Libra for speeches and audio narration.

I think that is why people are requesting that touch be disabled.

I would like to see a simple reading mode, where most of the touch UI was disabled: just forward page turns and something a more complex to bring up a menu. At a minimum, make the reading touch functionality match the UI.

I have to admit I've had the UI pop up and obscure what I was trying to read instead of doing what I want. Its even worse when it does that or highlights when I'm trying to click on a link instead.

It would be nice to have a mode that required a more complicated gesture (long press and hold?) to bring up the ui so that I could get link clicking and page turning without canceling the menus.

But enabling that by default or worse, accidentally, would be really bad for a new user.

I wish there was a way to see more than four recently opened books on the home screen of my clara bw. I’d also love a way to disable the ads for kobo plus, and the store on the home screen. The home screen has a lot of wasted space.

You can use kobopatch to remove some of the home screen clutter, or you can enable sideload mode to remove the home screen completely (but only if you sideload all your books, rather than syncing).
