It is both.
MusicBrainz is the IMDB of Music... https://musicbrainz.org/
MusicBrainz Picard is the software used to tag your music collection... https://picard.musicbrainz.org/

Can be a bit of a learning curve initially, but it becomes easier after a few CD's under your belt. Look up a few of your releases and see if the info is comprehensive enough.

I didn't see it as a problem as far as a company name goes. I do know that there was a conflict with The Beatles that was resolved when Apple agreed not to go into the Music Business.

Concerning Microsoft, something I did find a concern is that they made the ".doc" extension the extension for Microsoft Word Documents. That extension should have been left a generic one for documents, and Microsoft could have come up with something like ".mwd" (Microsoft Word Document) for documents recreated on their word processor. It helps Users when the extension tells you what type of item the file is.

What I will do is check out MusicBrainz when I get a CD where I can't find the metadata and give it a try. As I said, I don't mind manually updating the metadata, I just want to be able to find accurate metadata. Thanks for letting me know about this.

Semantically "folders" is more correct. A folder as part of its internal structure has a directory of the files in it. The hanging things in a file cabinet drawer have a name tag and then a bunch of files inside, sometimes even a nested non-hanging folder.

I think you are almost on your own on the directories vs folders naming. Most people accept either naming.

About 30 years ago I taught IT to people learning to be secretaries and also on site to existing computer users. They only understood computer filing when I explained it with reference to filing cabinets and folders, because to all of them a "directory" is a list of things, like phone numbers, or kinds of companies. You can get a "directory listing" with dir (ls in Linux, UNIX, BSD etc) of the folder you are currently "in".

iOS trademarks are licenced from Cisco.

Apple list iPhone as an Apple trademark, not licensed, so it looks like they bought the marks like they did for iPad (from Fujitsu).

Naming 101 for products, titles*, software & OS names:
1) Search dictionary that it's not a word. Utter fail if a spelling checker thinks it's OK.
2) Search the Internet. Before that you could search Trademark and Company name directories.
3) Possibly check it's not something nasty in a common language or trope in fiction.

Do not register real phrases or words as trademarks even if the broken USPTO allows it. Especially then do not sue all round you in fields unconnected with your business. It's malicious. See McDonalds, Vogue, Hollyworod (e.g. "Winter is coming")

Characters in books are the opposite (should common unlike the others).

And supermarkets should stop inventing misleading own brands for their products. Especially ones suggesting a local place or farm. I'm looking at YOU: Tesco, Aldi and Lidl.
Also "Handmade" and "Specially Selected" and "Premium Quality" ought to be banned from factory made supermarket products!

Strangely titles can't be copyrighted, but it's not sensible to use the same one that's commonly known, or actually very common!
