Dealing with Kindle ebooks in calibre

Has anyone had any luck running Kindle For PC 2.4.0.7094 (or an alt version) in a VM on an arm version of Windows 11 on Apple Silicon?

I've gotten it to install and login, but every time I try to download a book the app crashes to the desktop.

I can bulk download after D&T goes away. I have an old enough Kindle that can sync my eBooks no problem. I've been using it to download my eBooks. I'm almost done.

I am surprised that people didn't download and liberate their books right away, honestly. Scramble to get them all downloaded in time.

Well, I'm downloading everything. I know I didn't get the updates previously. When I am done downloading and have them all on calibre, I can use Find Duplicates to remove the duplicates I have.

Add me to this list. As to the possible updates, yeah, not going to go through my thousands of Kindle books to find them. Just don't care enough.

As to the mass downloading going on at the moment, my guess is that many people only download their purchases sporadically, so might easily miss something; hence the panic.

You need to confirm the update for every updated book on your Content page to get the new version. Otherwise you'll get the old version.

Even then Amazon may not offer the update on the Content page! You can't buy a book again you've bought ordinarily. You can delete it and then you can buy it again. Used a 2nd account to verify the book was obviously updated (look inside can show too as the © date will have changed and maybe something else). The repurchase was the original version.

Amazon, not the publisher / content provider, decides if an existing purchaser can get an update or not. Seems that if it's not as an option on the content page you can't even buy the new version unless you use a different account!

Not sure what happens if you buy someone a "gift" ebook and they already have it. I might test that too in the spirit of scientific enquiry.

That's true, unfortunately. If you've bought an older version and Amazon doesn't offer an updated one, you cannot even buy the new version with the same account you used to buy the old version.

Hi,
Followed instructions, seemed to be working so I started downloading my collection, got about 20 before the kindle for pc app just stopped downloading the books and put an explanation mark on them, I don't understand what happened, any thoughts?

Thank you to the author of the guide and the creators of Calibre, the NoDRM and KFX-input plugins.

Exported all my ebooks into epub. Now I need to find a managed "cloud ebook locker provider" and find a way to export all books on Google Books.

@Sirtel - on the link you posted it confirms the removal of the ability to download books to USB. So, it appears that we are no further forward with a solution to the original question

The thread in Sirtel's link lists all the ways to get files.

After 26th Feb they will be:

• Kindle for PC v2.4.0
• Kindle for Mac v7.24 if you can get it
• An E-Ink Kindle
• Kindle for Android

Personally, I'm moving to buying from Kobo.
