Kobo Aura One, latest firmware. Latest Windows 10 updates. Latest Calibre, but it's happened on every version. It's happened on each of the last three Kobo firmwares (which is as far back as mine goes).

The crash is usually within seconds of the Kobo being detected by Calibre and doing the library sync. I think the longest it's taken is around 30 seconds. I don't have to transfer a book or anything for it to happen, just have them both open.

If I have the Kobo connected first or second it makes no difference.

@kiwik - have you tried running calibre with the --ignore-plugins option with the kobo plugged into usb3. might as well eliminate that variable too.

It didn't crash, but it caused the Kobo to become unrecognised by Windows.

Before launching Calibre (with --ignore-plugins), I was able to browse the Kobo drive happily in Windows Explorer.

After a restart, Windows detected a problem with the drive and I had to scan and fix. So something about launching with --ignore-plugins caused the Kobo to become slightly broken.

edit: Images updated, thanks BR.

@kiwik - MR can host images and it will display thumbnails, in the Advanced dialogue click the paper clip icon, add images, the images then will be available in the paper clip menu to insert into post, any images you don't insert will be attached at the end of the post.

Can you post the text of the error - use the Copy to clipboard.

OK - in part, this answers something I asked earlier 'Can kobo's be used without any of the optional kobo plugins?' - the question was directed at davidfor or PeterT, I don't think I got a simple yes/no answer, but that's bye-and-bye.

Hopefully we now have a condition that is repeatable and diagnosable by the kobo experts. I'm not sure I've ever seen a kobo, so one of them I ain't

Device: Kobo Libre 2
I have the same crashing problem but with one difference: my PC crashes when my Kobo Libre 2 is plugged in and Calibre is not running. This is the second Libre 2 which exhibits this behaviour.

I've followed all of the advice here but nothing has made any difference.

Windows 10 Enterprise Version 22H2 OS build 19045.5487
Intel Core i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz 16GB memory

Any ideas?

Only eight year old ones - given you've established your problem is unrelated to calibre I suggest you ask in Kobo Reader forum.
