Amazon is getting rid of the download and transfer via USB.
This is how I get all my books into Calibre. What's the alternative? I try to keep my kindle on airplane mode because more than once, Amazon has deleted all of my side loaded books. Now they claim the only way to get books onto the kindle is by WiFi. Any ideas how to deal with this new "feature"? |

This can happen if book is not fully downloaded when you plug in. I had this happen yesterday and freaked out a bit because of the whole situation with D&T going away and this being one of my remaining 'lifelines.' I'd just updated calibre so it seemed that's what broke things. Nope, was me staying up too late and moving too fast.

Yup, loophole is closed with K4Mac 7.25.1. Amazon is aggressively closing avenues. Makes me think K4PC is next. Also wondering how long eink Kindles will continue to work, especially older models.

Amazon did say that only WiFi Kindles wlil be supported. So that means no more support for K1, K2, DX, and DXG.

No, the beta. But, I did get it working. Apparently before connecting the kindle to Calibre the book has to be fully downloaded on the device. I obviously hadn't quite got all the way all the other times I tried to import it. But I succeeded tonight after learning that tip.

There is nothing in the current alpha version of DeDRM needed for KFX. 10.0.9 has everything that's been figured out so far for that. If you are trying the Kindle for Android method (which avoids KFX), then you need the alpha version in order to import your key. But that method is probably on its last legs if you can get it working at all.

Yes, the alpha has worked fine for me. The added things are relatively untested. But as far as I can see don't break anything else. But as I said, it really isn't necessary for most at the moment. You can see what it adds at the bottom of the changelog at the github.

Amazon updated the DRM in Kindle for PC last year and has released several more new versions since the last one that works with DeDRM. Restricting downloads of books to those older versions is likely to happen soon. The DRM used by e-ink Kindles has not been updated lately and can still be dealt with by DeDRM. That is likely to change in an upcoming Kindle firmware release, bringing it in line with the PC and Mac apps. After that it might be months or years until the next breakthrough in kindle DRM removal happens. |
