Help with Jailbreaking Voyage

I tried jailbreaking my Voyage yesterday according to the winterbreak kindlemodding.org docs, but was met with a few issues. First, the file explorer didn't allow me to copy the files (fixed by extracting tar to new folder and then copying). After this was solved I moved on to attempting the jailbreak. It didn't show up the firts time so I tried again, which worked well.

Next I tried installing the hotfix. This is where things started to go wrong. I plugged my kindle in to the PC, dragged the bin onto the kindle root, and ejected and unplugged it. But no luck - the jailbreak didn't recognize it AT ALL. So then I tried again by deleting the hotfix and reinstalling it, but still didn't work. Then I rebooted (probably shouldn't have) it showed update error 2 and then it restarted into normal.

So how do I fix this? What am I doing wrong? TIA

1. The first thing to do is to reinstall the latest firmware on your Voyage; you can find some guidance in this post.
   
2. Then, since the last supported software version for the Voyage is relatively old, it might be worthwhile to stick to the tried and true LanguageBreak method to jailbreak your Kindle, as it has been around for much longer than WinterBreak and bugs have mostly been ironed out; you will also avoid any complication related to the “soft float vs hard float” topic.
