Hi,
I came here to hear some recommendations of an e-reader. ![]() I'm looking for android-based ereaders, unless there's one that's really good that doesn't run android - I'd be happy to hear it. ![]() Also looking for as big of a screen as possible - I'll be reading manga on it. I won't however be reading american comics on it nor take notes, so color is unnecessary for me. I also want something that doesn't lag during usage, the usage in question being merely reading manga and some written books. ![]() As for the price range really anything up to 1700PLN ($420) so long as it's justified. Happy to answer any additional questions relating to my needs ![]() |

Onyx is the best Android-based ereader company that I know of. https://shop.boox.com/
I've had 2 of their ereaders and liked them. https://shop.boox.com/products/gocolor7 is their latest 7 inch dvice which I think is the right size for manga? The older black and white devices 7 inch and 10 inch devices might be cheaper but will probably have older Android versions, so you might not be able to install some apps. All eInk devices will be slower than LCD/OLED devices, because the display technology is different. There will always be a slight delay on page turning or pressing an icon because the particles have to actually move to change the display. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_paper has more details if you want. EInk has other major advantages over LCD and OLED - better in bright light, less eyestrain, less power use. But the tradeoff is it's not quite as immediatley responsive to a finger tap. |

I second Onyx Boox! Bought a Go6 six weeks ago, which is far too small for your purposes, and am very happy with it.
It was a bit fiddly to set up initially, but after finding out where and what to fine tune, I am impressed by how smooth everything works. The screen is a very sharp Carta 1300. The battery life is less than what I'm used to, but not outrageously short. I always crank up the lights to really bright, so with wifi off and lights at approximately 75%, just reading and not scrolling through my library, it uses ca. 4% battery per hour. |

One thing I've been thinking about is whether I need color. If I were to answer I don't, but color isn't just sonething you can buy extra.
As for the Go B&W models, iirc they all have android 13, so outdated software isn't an issue here. Another question - I've seen people's BOOX devices break presumably due to a swollen battery. Is this an actual issue or just very rare? Also, what size is optimal for manga? Last edited by AdRoz78; 12-15-2024 at 09:55 AM. Reason: Added question |

I've decided to go with a 10-inch reader, still unsure as to the model though.

Made a decision - the BOOX Go 10.3. Refunds exist, so if something I can always just refund.

I wouldn't recommend an e-ink device. The affordable once with 10" screens are usually too small for comics (assuming they also have a lot of text to read). Get something like the TCL NXTPAPER 14 or the Lenovo Tab12 with matte display. The Lenovo is smaller but has the better features as I've mentioned in another post somewhere on this forum. Plus you really can do more with these tablets without the annoying refreshes or ghosting and you will get more android updates than you will get on any e-ink device from Boox, BigMe etc.
