Two years ago, was published in a Spanish forum a prototype "GlowLight" as a domestic experiment:

http://traductor.elmundo.es/Pages/Ur...lternates=True

The greatest difficulty is in getting a diffusing material that allows a good read.
In this case, was a sheet of plastic adhesive.

I mention as a curiosity.

There are plenty of cheaper ereader on the market.
Using of newest technologies (faster processors, more flash memory on board, HD screens, GlowLight etc.) can not be very cheap. Additionaly IMHO it is quite unfair to force an innovator to develope and produce new devices without profit. A small company under pressing of dumping prices can just disappear and nobody wins. Besides they also offer some low cost ereader. But majority of customers prefer devices with better equipment.

Perhaps i am being a bit obtuse but dont find any sense at all in a lighted e-ink ereader. i thought e-ink main point was precissely to differ from LCD conventional screens, being as similar to real paper as possible avoiding any eye stressing, even at the price of having a B&W and slow screen. This new lighted display would have the worst of the two worlds. Why dont buy a tablet instead?

Well, check out some videos of the nook with glow light (or whatever it's called) and you'll see What it's about. Could indeed be helpful to be able to read at night, as long as the contrast of the e-ink screen isn't too negatively impacted.

Ahhh, if only they decided to use consistent product names, it would be easier to find these videos!
