As this is a hardware approach and the PW3 is specifically mentioned I would assume it can work, assuming that it has been updated to deal with the changes to the location of the target file that took place with the latest firmware. You will have to confirm with the creator that this has been addressed in the package.

I can confirm it still works on a PW3 running 5.16.2.1.1 using @beyonik 's patches.

Did you manage to get Kual in 5.16.2.1? My JB was kept but Kual is busted

Feel obligated to add that this is technically not a supported configuration, these packages haven't officially been updated for 5.15.1.1 but they do seem to work for the time being, practice caution when using these.
Any way we can update the version check to support PW3 5.16.2.1.1?

PW2 with 5.16.2.1.1

Hey folks,

I have a PW2 (7th gen) from 2017 that has never been updated - until recently. Unfortunately, my wife has logged into a hotel wifi and the Kindle received an update to 5.16.2.1.1.

I was about to convert it to a smart home control panel but with the damn screensaver it seems useless for such a project.

Question: Can this hardware JB be used (as a first step) to convert my PW2 5.16.2.1.1 into a Kindle that has an always on screen (preferrably in kiosk/fullscreen mode)?

I have managed to boot into SDP mode every now and then. However, I have not been able to flash the device using Linux or Windows.

Linux:
dmesg

Windows:

MfgTool detects the device but either stops at "Loading uboot" or something like that and with a partially filled blue progress bar at the top (and no progress in the bottom) or with a 1/3 filled red bar at the top and a full red bar at the bottom and the following error message:
Code:
"Boot" body="BootStrap" error, file="C:\Users\coma\Downloads\Popcorn - Hardware Jailbreak Windows Version\Wario\Profiles\Linux\OS Firmware\u-boot.bin"
I have tried payloads from #1 by katadelos, #13 by ygjsz and #72 by beyonik.

Have I completely misunderstood something? Are the bins for PW3 and PW2 the same (wario)?

I'd be glad if you could give me a hint as I'm new to the Kindle JB game.

Thanks in advance

Nevermind and thank you for your great work.

The issue was related to THREE faulty USB cables. God, I don't miss those Micro USB days.

For anyone having similar issues during flashing:

To install KUAL on my PW3 (7th gen) with 5.16.2.1.1 I used
- popcorn from katadelos #1 on linux, connecting right side of CR501 to TP508; make sure you are in the correct working directory
- uImage-popcorn-wario from beyonik #72 (replaced original in imx_usb_loader/wario/)
- update_jb_hotfix.bin from beyonik #73
- update_kual_hotfix.bin from beyonik #73

keep hacking!

I haven't tested it on Windows again with the working cable as my main rig runs linux.
Maybe try a VM or live CD / USB stick and install imx-usb-loader.

Good luck
