Question Sending files directly to PRS500 without Calibre

Is there any way to send files to directly to the PRS-500 (without the recent firmware update)?

I understand that you usually have to add to the Calibre library first, and then have the program transfer the files to the device itself.

Nope, you need either the Sony or the Calibre software. Since the 500 doesn't mount as a drive.

Without the ePub upgrade, the 500 is not seen as a USB mass storage device. It needs a USB driver for Calibre and Reader Library to be able to communication with the 500. Best bet is if you can, send the 500 in for the upgrade. It's well worth it.

Argh. And I guess there's no way to update the firmware without sending it in.
Thanks for the replies.

The thing is I want to be able to hack my Reader. I'm working on a simple school project that involves automatically pushing content from the PC onto the Reader.

Can't do it with/without my PRS-500.

Maybe that's a good excuse to buy a new e-ink reader? haha

The upgrade takes a week and Sony pays for shipping your 500 both ways.
I did it and everything worked out perfectly.
