convert ePub to ePub Cover and Metadata only

Has anyone figured out a way to run a conversion on an ePub to just insert at begining the cover and metadata without reconverting the whole book?

I can do in the ePub editory but that is a pain.

(maybe make a choice under parameters in converting?)

There is no guaranteed way to do this. If the epub has a well defined cover in the manifest then the 'save to disk' feature, or the 'modify epub' plugin in the dev sub-forum both have the ability to do this. If the cover isn't defined/specified and just happens to be the first image then a conversion is the only way to do it at this time.

When an ePub is put into Calibre and then saved to disk, it is automatically modified?

As I understand it the version of the epub that is saved to disk is modified with all current metadata, including cover if relevant. The version of the epub in Calibre's library is un-modified. Kiwidude's new plugin allows this to be done in-situ.
