I don't think there's a problem with the Oasis, its design, or the firmware. Rather, it seems to be the hit-or-miss nature of Chinese-sourced batteries.

It could be a double-edged sword. It has been my experience with Chinese batteries that, either you get one with crappy capacity that lasts for 5 years, or you get one with good capacity that lasts for 1 year (or less).

When it comes time to replace the battery, I'm going to look hard for a Japanese replacement before I roll the dice on a Chinese one. But for now, it's performing very well.

What’s best way to gauge if my Oasis battery is just typical crappy (just life with oasis 2)and whether it is worse than typical crappy (need to replace it).

Today my wife read her voyage at same time I read my Oasis. Same room, same lighting, in ten minutes she lost zero % of battery, I lost 4% of battery.

I love the device, but absolutely hate the battery.

Maybe a few of us could do a test?
Charge to 100%, Read with auto light off and light set at 6.
Read 15 minutes and post what your battery level is at?

Any device will "stick" at 100% for a while before the level starts to fall. Wait for the charge level to fall below 100% and then measure the rate of fall.

Yes, it does with mine I never use it on the Oasis 2.

That's interesting, do you mean replacing only the battery on the Oasis 2 ? I'm only asking because I read the Oasis 2 batteries were difficult to replace.

Those darn Chinese batteries ! I waited for a Japanese built Toyota 4 Runner, they were starting to build them here in the U.S. I wanted one made in Japan.

This is an oversimplification, but with the "current" generation of batteries, it is more like topping it up by 10% 10 times would be roughly equivalent to charging it from "dead" to 100% once.. The number of TIMES you charge isn't as important anymore as the total "charge" going through the battery.

Thanks for sharing... so charging from 0-100% is bad? Care to share any Oasis 2 battery saving tips? I recently had to return mine because it wouldn’t hold a charge at all, but my new device has an abysmal battery... I make sure to never leave it charging overnight but that’s pretty much it...

Letting the charge on any lithium battery get too low is not a good idea, but you'll be fine if you recharge at the time (or soon after) the Kindle gives you the "Battery Empty" screen. Personally I tend to recharge when the battery gets to around the 30% region, which means about once a week with my typical reading habits.

Any ideas on where one would be able to search for and buy a kindle Oasis 2 battery? Chinese or otherwise?

Yes but it dosen't address the problem, if you start with a battery that drains quickly and top everyday or do a full charge, the result will be going from bad to worse. i wonder where it will be a year from now ? So far it works well.
