I don't know if it's the same worldwide, but in the U.S., if you change last part of the 5.10.1.1 download link, i.e., 5.10.1.1.bin to 5.10.1.2.bin, you should be able to download that firmware.

In the U.S., 5.10.1.2 firmware is available at...

https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredow...2_5.10.1.2.bin

...for example.

It seems like it should also be available (soon) via OTA.
Oh that makes sense! At the start, I did load quite a few batches of books onto the kindle so that might explain it. Is there anything I can do or does waiting it out do the trick?
Hmm as I'm not in the states I think that little trick wouldn't work for me but I shall await it! Thanks so much for the pointer

Just googled on indexing and tested if my books were still going through the indexing process but nothing came up so I guess all is good! Am a first time kindle owner so all this stuff is relatively new to me so thank you all for the pointers!

@bbtan123: Leaving brightness at max 24 is going to drain the battery relatively quick. You should try to lower it as far down as possible so you can still read comfortably. In the dark, try starting at 10 and go down so it is still comfortable to read. The scale on the Kindle is logarithmic, unlike the percent on a Kobo that goes by power level.

"Update Your Kindle" is always grayed out until an OTA update downloaded (need to leave wifi on to get it), or you manually copied an update file onto the Kindle over USB.

Noted! I didn't really realise how fast the battery would drain if I left it on max brightness so i will adjust that accordingly!! Thanks for the tip

Don't you find it uncomfortable to read on such a bright screen? You should adjust the brightness so that that screen is NOT visibly "shining". In a dark room this'll probably mean a brightness setting of 5 or less. Turn the brightness up somewhat when reading in a better-lit room.

Hmm I think its a matter of personal preference and the type of lighting everyone individually has. I used to read off my phone before the switch to kindle and therefore have been very used to what you described as reading from a "visibly shining" screen.

Just curiuous but if you disable the touchscreeen how do you do anything with the PW4?

If I'm not wrong, you can only swipe the screen to turn the page. This function comes in handy if you're a parent reading to your kid as they would naturally want to point to certain texts or words.

Certainly it's a matter of personal preference, but do try using a much lower light level - I'm sure you'll find it more comfortable. It may sound a little counter-intuitive, but the darker the room, the less light you need.

Yes, of course it is personal preference. Remember that eink is a different technology. The contrast is pretty much always the same - the light shifts the overall brightness up and down without effecting contrast (objective contrast, not perceived contrast). Yes, turn it down too low without enough ambient light, and it will appear that the contrast is gone.

Even a piece of coal will shine brightly if you throw enough light at it. Like, for example, the moon, which has pretty much the reflective properties of coal.

Yup, I'll definitely be giving it a shot, might need some adjusting but hopefully I'll find it more comfortable in time! And @DuckieTigger thanks for the analogy and explanation of the eink technology!

Just curious as to why reviews on Amazon are not showing for this device. I’m having to come here for reviews.

Yeah, I'm thinking Amazon isn't allowing them in yet or something. There's no way no one would have posted an Amazon review by now, I'd be pretty surprised if that were the case.

Go by what's comfortable with your eyes. I have to turn the screen up high in the evenings as well, so eyes differ - as well as the devices themselves. There isn't really a wrong setting or wrong way to read on it. To me the turned down screen makes it too hard to read unless I'm outdoors during daylight hours.

One benefit I've been enjoying with the PW4 is long, self-indulgent book baths the past few days. That bonus is already paying off.
