Change book details background colour to Sepia NOT WORKING!

Hi recently my computer crashed and i had to download calibre again.

1) I prefer my background to not be stark and reset the background colour. I
went into Preferences, Book details, and changed "body, td {
background-color: #dfd4aa;" but still the background remains white". What
am I missing?

2) Is there a way to save all tweaks one sets to a document so that in case of a crash one just loads that file?
TIA

When this happened to me, I had to go to C:\Program Files\Calibre2\app\resources\templates and make sure book_details.css wasn't set to Read-only in its Properties > Attributes.

I am not sure if this is the proper way to go about it though. It seems to change every time Calibre is updated.

It isn't. You should put the file in <your calibre configuration folder>/resources/templates. This way it won't get overwritten by a calibre upgrade. Note also that this copy overrides the one in the calibre installation folders, so if a copy exists changes to the one in the installation folder will be ignored.

You can find your calibre configuration folder using Preferences / Miscellaneous / Open calibre configuration folder.

Changing book details works for me. See the screen captures.
