Bought two Libra 2 ereaders. Unable to access kobo.com one week later.

I bought two libra 2 ereaders for christmas gifts and one week later we are unable to access kobo.com. In fact, we are unable to access kobo.com from any device originating from our static IP address. Pulling an IP address from my ISP by DHCP works but that is not going to work since I require a static IP. And to make things even more trying we life in a piss poor cell reception area so trying to use our phones as a wifi hot-spot doesn't work. Quite frankly it's pissing me off. Any suggestions before I wipe the devices and tell kobo to f*** off?

Does your ISP know you are setting a static IP address? My ISP does that for business accounts only which makes it quite a bit more expensive. Is the static IP address you are setting in same address range as the DCHP assigned address? Perhaps you might want to look into dynamic DNS if you need to access your internal network from outside?

Yes they do. I have a Comcast Business account. Yes, the DHCP address is from the same subnet.

I'm having the same problem and have reported it to Kobo as a Kobo beta tester. I'm in Mississauga, a city adjacent to Toronto -- but @Petert, in Toronto, is not having the problem, and the folks at Kobo headquarters, also in Toronto, haven't been able to reproduce it.

I get around this by using a VPN (specifically, NordVPN) to pretend to be accessing from a location I chose randomly in the US, namely St. Louis.

I've passed on a link to this thread to the Kobo beta test community, which is run by Kobo staff.

Being in the same subnet doesn't really mean much. It can depend on the size of the subnet and whether how it is subdivided. If it is within the same /24, then they are probably being treated the same, but, if it is a larger subnet, then it they might be handled differently.

When changing to DHCP, did anything else change? DNS servers is the obvious. And routing is the other. It not uncommon for a static IP to be handled differently by the ISP. Especially if it a business service.

And, while you say that the site doesn't work, you don't say how it doesn't work. Do you get a 404 for the page, a server not found error, a blank screen or something else? Can you resolve the host name? Can you ping the address? And seeing a traceroute for the working and non-working configurations might be handy. Any of these could help to work out where the problem is: your end, the ISP, Kobo, Akamai (who Kobo use for protection and some hosting) or somewhere else.

There are cases where the IP you have has been banned because someone who previously had it caused trouble. You might be best off to ask for a new static IP.

I have an update. I reached out to Kobo via twitter and apparently it appears kobo did ban my IP address. The only thing I can think that caused this is my young daughter did not know what she was doing and factory reset her kobo device multiple times back to back.

Everything is working now with my static IP. No configuration changes were made on my end.
